Gronkowski Likely Facing Penalty From NFL After Hit On Sunday

BB should do a preemptive strike, "In the absence of league punishment, I am sitting Gronk for the next Buffalo game"
Sends a message about retaliation to the Patriots and more importantly a needed wake up to the league.
Keeps Gronk away from dangerous pre-playoff payback by numerous Williams players.

Since we will defeat the Squealers, we can even afford to drop a game.

the side view looks bad.......but watch the angle from the rear, he contacts him between the numbers, and then his weight comes down on top of him......the side view looked way worse
Yea its brutal....

The problem is BB would be messing with Gronk's incentives. With that said they would amend the contract and pay him anyway.

He hit him where the neck meets the head which was the bottom part of his helmet and above his name plate.

The only conclusion you can make is his intent was to hit him hard in the back of the head.

We can't sit back and "judge" what Gronk meant to do but only look at what he did.

Well here's a giphy. It doesn't look good either way. It's in slow motion.

You're right though. He hit his head.

I really did not see replays of the hit yesterday - looked at it now. It was a bit odd. He wound up with his right arm, but it was his left arm that contacted his head when he fell on him - amirite?
Almost like he changed his mind on how he wanted to hit him.

Yea the forearm hits him in the back as @yukon cornelius says but the upper arm/shoulder lands right on the back of the helmet/upper name plate.

Man...Gronk hs this happy go lucky guy persona but with the Sergi Brown issue, the ending the SB 49 and this it shows a bad-ass side of Gronk.

Strange. I watched it a couple of times and still didn't completely agree with your take. I do now. Damn.

yeah, he lands on his head......but i'm not ready to go full bore mediot like some of the tweet-monsters and say he targeted his head or lowered his shoulder into his head....

I won't either but I hate these dirty hits. I understand Gronk's frustration but you can't potentially ruin a guy's career because you're pissed at the refs.

oh, he was pissed at white too lol....he'd been dealing with his **** all game

but he didn't go all burfict or alonso or even talib.....he jumped on him, just happens he weighs 270 and caught him high

watching the kid for years and knowing the situation at hand, i just really think his frustration/did something stupid as a result puts this in a lesser category than a suh/burfict/alonso (**** that hit was bad, i can't let go lol)

I love Gronk but what he did is unacceptable. Turn the jerseys around and ask yourself what we'd be saying if that was McCourty, Butler, or any other defensive player on the Pats getting concussed with the same cheap shot from a player like Gronk. A massive, high energy, beast of a human being who's 6'7 or so and 270ish pounds. We'd be irate, and we'd demand a lifetime ban from the league (I'm exaggerating here). The point is, that stuff can't, and shouldn't happen. Players can get seriously hurt. That being said, Gronk isn't known to be a dirty player. An animal who plays to the fullest yes (I mean this as a compliment), but not a cheap shot kind of guy. If the league gave him a game I'd be a little surprised only cuz I believe this is his first offense like this, but it wouldn't be uncalled for. I expect a steep fine though.

I wouldn't suspend him because Gronk is not a repeat offender like TO was. That he did was stupid and a guy his size can end someone's career hit him in the back like that, but you can tell Gronk didn't put everything into it, Like Evans hitting Lattamore in the back, that was a suspending offense.
You can see Gronk get more and more frustrated as White pretty much was holding him the entire game, almost, and the Refs did nothing to stop it. Which I've noticed the Refs do to Gronk because I think they feel sorry for the CB's that cover him.

So I do blame the Refs a little for letting it get out of hand. I mean White held Gronk most of that play and then intercepted him after pass interference and then Gronk just had enough and snapped and did a stupid thing. That's how we see it.

Yes, he should be fined , but not suspended. Now if the NFL wants to make an example of Gronk by suspending him so the other players will think, "well if they will suspend Gronk, they will suspend anyone" I can understand that thinking, but don't think its a suspendable offense, because he is not a TO type player, and White and the Ref's contributed to the problem.

If you accept that hit you can't complain about Suh, Burfict or Pollard.

Oh I agree he should receive a 1-game suspension and he would deserve it, but still, I really enjoyed it.

I honestly don't know why this thread has gotten to 20 pages. Gronk, who has been treated differently, and unfairly, by the officials for years, did something stupid and dangerous out of frustration, and injured someone he had no call to injure. He'll get punished for it, and deservedly so. We have to assume that anything from a fine to a multi-game suspension will be on the table, and that the appeals process will deal with it, should Gronk feel the penalty is too harsh.

Beyond that, what the hell else is there to say?

Come here often?

Me neither. We have no way of knowing intent. All we know is what he did. To your point he started in the middle/upper back.

I just think he was so pissed off and crazed he didn't think about WHERE he was going to hit him and all he cared about in that 1/2 second was WHO

i need to see what he did before he launched.....i remember him looking around for a flag......where was he looking when white was touched by another offensive player? there was no whistle, was he busy looking for the flag when he was touched? did he realize he was down?

granted, a simple hand to the back would have downed him, even if he didn't see the big white line

looking at his post game interview, and the 'its crazy, man'....it really looks like the kid really had no clue what all went down......he looked around, no flag, what the ****, he has the ball, i need to down him.....and like a dipshit piled on instead of just touching him.....unfortunately that **** flies in the basement wrestling with glenn and dan, but not here.....it sounds like making excuses, but ****, it's gronk......after watching and listening to him for so many years, he's a very large man-child who can ball, but beyond that i think much goes over his head lol

who knows.....he could be a raging ******* like burfict with a clear intent to injure.....but i don't see it
