Baker Mayfield - Oklahoma - 6' / 220 - QB

BACKGROUND
  • From Austin, Texas. Played at Lake Travis High School, where he played QB was 25-2 and won state title.
  • Walk on to Texas Tech where he had immediate success and was named Big 12 Conference Freshman Offensive Player of the Year for the 2013 season.
  • Mayfield sustained an injury, had a "disagreement" with the coach (ing) staff and ultimately transferred to Oklahoma without talking to the OK coaching staff. Mayfield made the team but RS his first year. He started 26 games over the 2 years and improved each one.
  • Was arrested on February 25 2017 for public intoxication, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct and fleeing. Called it the biggest mistake of his life and rebounded with a Heisman conversation type season.
  • Teammates absolutely love playing with him. His energy is noticeable and infectious, on and off the field.
  • Recent car accident involving mother, sister & other family members broke and brought his immediate family together. Father, James Mayfield was former QB & Punter for U Of Houston from 67-69.

Strengths
  • Traditionally undersized but Thick, proportioned, build throughout ankles to shoulders.
  • QB made up of intangibles. Confident, poise/doesn't panic, thrives off pressure, displays toughness, uses "you can't" as motivation & has take charge attitude in huddle/on field. Teammates follow him and love his fight, heart.
  • Has improved each year. Stats, play on the field & football I.Q. Can read, understand what's in front of him.
  • Touch passer that can spin the ball w/ good velocity on short/intermediate throws, hit his guy in stride & shows very good ball placement/accuracy.
  • Very good pocket awareness (picking up pressure, knowing where check down is, down/distance etc) elusiveness & can absolutely gash a defense w/ his legs.
  • Mr. Get It Done. Scrambling, short-mid, deep, check down. WR, TE, RB. Baker makes it work.
  • Good mechanics, can throw on the move w/ & get the ball out quick.

Concerns
  • Undersized at 6'1/220. Will take harder hits, tipped passed at the L.O.S. & hands could be on small side.
  • Loses touch, accuracy on his deep ball & will occasionally side arm his passes. Doesn't have a naturally big arm.
  • Exclusive shotgun QB.
  • Footwork will get sloppy at times
  • Will stare down his man on occasion

Kyle Lauletta - PATRIOT-TYPE PLAYER - 6'2/220 - QB - Richmond - Hands 9 5/8

Background

  • Father of Joe & Kim. From Exton, P.A. - Played QB for Downtown East High School. Had 5,243 yards & 64 TD'S
  • Father played at Navel Academy (83-86), Uncle Lex (77-80), Uncle Lance played Lacrosse (76-79) & grandfather played football & basketball (53-56). Both of Kyles brothers play/ed football.
  • Father steered Kyle towards QB right when he first started playing.
  • 25 starts before tearing A.C.L. - Also has P.C.L. tear from high school
Strengths
  • Solid, compact but fluid 6’2/217.
  • Very mature, smart & commands huddle. Was geared towards & trained to play QB from a early age.
  • Very good mechanics that help execute a lightning quick release. Very Good base/feet pointed at target for most part. Generates power from core (legs, hips & stomach) Very efficient.
  • Very accurate & good placement to the short & intermediate parts of the field. Throws in WR’S open. Can fit the ball into tight windows bc of velocity he gets from lower half.
  • Soft, quick feet. Light mover around the pocket. Can manipulate a pocket, reset & deliver.
  • Not a running QB but can pick up easy yards defenses might not be able to account for & scramble for a 1st down. Doesn't need a perfect platform to deliver a good pass.
  • Knows how to absorb a hit without taking a K.O. shot. Very tough & has come back from a serious injury at a young age.
  • At times made checks to the l.o.s. & play. Went through several progressions & looked off/moved LB’s & S’s.
  • Sneaky athleticism
  • Showed he belongs with “Big Names” by recent Senior Bowl performance. Looked like he belonged & outshined a lot of players.

Concerns
  • Has to study more and lock himself in the film room. Has what it takes to be a cerbial, efficient QB but has to put in more work in that area. Has to process the game faster.
  • Arm maxes out around 55-60 yards although he does have a nice fastball. Inconsistent deep ball.
  • Small hands - At times it looks like he's double clutching to assure firm grip on the ball when hes getting ready to throw.
  • Could tinker with footwork to assure better base but footwork in general in pretty good.
  • Won't win over some Teams & G.M.s bc of arm, doesn't have “prototype” build.

Outlook

There's so much to like about Lauletta. The mechanics, release, soft feet, accuracy and velocity are all great traits to have. You absolutely want those qualities in your QB. His mental makeup & toughness are things you can't teach. A Navy Captains son who was introduced to the position from his father. It's safe to say he knows hard work and sacrifice. You can't teach those & they separate the best from good. Lauletta has a ton to improve upon but he's a fantastic prospect. With a lot of hard work & some good coaching, Lauletta could be a future starter in a west coast-timing offense.

Kyle Lauletta - Traits That Translate

Look at the footwork. Always pointed at target. Sets base & fires. Easy mover.

Checks backside first & fires a perfect strike.

Accuracy on the run. Very familiar & comfortable on the run.

Great play action fake. Check out the LB's.

Finley seems like a guy that is perfect for our offense.

I like him a lot. Can hit all 3 levels but was also looking at multiple options. Looks collected out there.

He was arrested and charged with 2 misdemeanors in 2015 while at Boise State. Apparently partying, ran from police and was hiding in someone's yard.

Interviews will be huge this year.

Apparently he has been in school six years and is still a junior. Maybe the N.C. state website is wrong!

GBN has him ranked as a first rounder. Based on film, I was thinking third or fourth round.

Haha, nah it's right. He graduated in 3 from Boise State. Had to get his football situation and career on track I guess. RS & Transferred.

Played some decent bball in h.s.

He didn’t have a very good year, but he was considered a top 5 pick prior to the season.

He has more raw talent than Carson Wentz, & if he is there when the Patriots pick, I really want them to draft Josh Allen.

Hopefully the Ryan Mallett mistake won’t scare them away from the Wyoming big arm.

I have seen mocks that have him going in the 2nd round.

I would really like to see Clayton Thorson out of Northwestern be the next QB the Pats select. He sounds like he fits the mold perfectly.

I'm a big fan of Fromm. Sign me up.

Doesn’t Georgia have the number 1 high school qb recruit in the country going there next season? That should have Fromm thinking about transferring,

Ps: How did Saban not land that qb recruit after watching a rb play qb for two years now in Tuscaloosa,

Fields, yes. Florida trying to get him now

That would be one hell of a haul since the Gators already have Corral committed.

Good problem to have. U guys always have studs 2 deep.

Not a QB but what do u think of Tavon Bryan from UF?
