Re: BB summoned to NFL office in new york . . . [Team denies rumor]

He's been an ass, and I just hope that the players' union sacks up and tells him to take a hike.
He's been an ass, on that I agree. I also think that's his job when people are breaking rules. Rules are there to be followed, what would you do, let people off quietly? And that would help the game's integrity?

Re: BB summoned to NFL office in new york . . . [Team denies rumor]

What do you mean? The story became national because it has to do with the Patriots, a team on top, and Belichick, who very few people like. If this was the Browns, it wouldn't be as big a deal.

I don't know what the league could do to stop the story from getting to the press. I'm sure the Jets let everyone know privately. And publicly, it seems the league told everyone to keep quiet. What else are they supposed to do?

So who exactly provided the detail that the camera was confiscated?

And this is kind of the "last straw" for me; there's been a consistent trend of overexposure, not just this most recent issue targeted at the Patriots. The individual player stories, the gripes with retired player compensation, etc. etc.

Belichick still here

Patriots spokesman Stacey James just denied reports that Patriots head coach Bill Belichick has been summoned to New York to meet with commissioner Roger Goodell.

“It’s not true,” James said. “He’s here.”

Asked if that meant Belichick wouldn’t be summoned at all, James said he didn’t think so.

“You’ll have to talk to the league on that,” James said. “He hasn’t been called in and I don’t anticipate that he will be.”

League spokesman Greg Aiello did not immediately return a message seeking comment.

Looks to me like the NFL has a HUUUUUGE "thug mentality" problem that Tags left untended for literally YEARS and it has reached critical mass with Pacman, Tank, Vick, etc... and FINALLY a grown-up like Goodell has come in to actually take responsibility and clean things up.

Honestly, I'm shocked that this is even an issue. This is like people saying that dissent is somehow UNpatriotic. It's ridiculous. There's a problem - let's take CARE of it.

Jones got an entire year suspension. To put it kindly, that was ridiculously punitive.

You mean the league shouldn't have commented publicly at all? I don't know, it seems that there was a bunch of rumors circulating, maybe they wanted to state the facts plainly. I was glad that they did issue a statement, personally. Helped cleared things up for me.

OK, I understand that.

Just wait until the clamor gets so loud that Goodell has to testify before a Congressional hearing...

Re: BB summoned to NFL office in new york . . . [Team denies rumor]

This is really easy for the patriots to address. Just have a press conference, with Belichick present.

Yeah and nobody cared about what these thugs were doing back when Tag was commish. Regardless of what Goodell thinks....the thugs haven't threatened the integrity of the NFL(except maybe Vick) and Tag would have done the same thing against Vick.

Can you imagine if the original LT was playing now? He'd have a lifetime ban and probably have been tarred and feathered.

God no. Why would they do that? Nobody needs to do anything. Just sit tight and wait for the league to do whatever it is they're going to do. Then move on.

Re: BB summoned to NFL office in new york . . . [Team denies rumor]

And all Goodell has done by giving these issues exposure and making suspensions left and right is made the NFL look worse and worse.

Just what we need...an NFL dictator. Trying to be intimidating and having us worry about something that our team or players might be doing.

Ring Ring

BB: Hello?

Roger Goodell: Bill, this is Roger Goodell...

BB: Who?

RG: Roger Goodell, d%#*!@t the head of the NFL!

BB: Oh, hi.

RG: Listen, Bill, you're causing me a lot of headaches with this signal stealing crap. I know everyone does it, but not so blatantly, and now I have to make a show of doing something about it. I want you down here on the next plane...

BB: Ah, Mr. Goodell, look I'm preparing for a game on Sunday...

RG: I don't care. Bill Polian is having a coronary...

BB: It is what it is.

RG: Get down here now!

BB: How about the second week in February when I have some free time?

RG: Bill, I'm warning you...

BB: How about if I send the guy you took the camera from? I have no idea what he was doing anyway.

RG: Bill!!

click

:bricks: (d%#*!@t we need an applause smilie!)

Re: BB summoned to NFL office in new york . . . [Team denies rumor]

Sounds like some green-colored sour grapes to me. However, this story has really taken off, so who knows?

If it does turn out to be true and the pats were warned about it before, then they deserve whatever they get.

It was almost to obvious, though. Almost like somebody set the whole thing up. Remember, Bill's the one who took out a restraining order against Polian last year, so he has done stuff like that in the past.

If he did set the whole thing up, then I tip my cap to him.

And that's ALL A GOOD THING.

I want to see MORE of Goodell. I want to see him dealing with every infraction, loudly and clearly, to send a message and clean sh!t up. I don't want Pacman in this league, not the way he's acting, and Roger is the man to deal with it.

The owners knew what they were getting with Goodell, believe me.

Actually, if Goodell has been Commish back in '85, maybe we wouldn't have had to deal with Jim McMahon!

I think he should also retroactively suspend Joe Namath for every boa wearing incident since Super Bowl III.

Now that is a naive statement. Multiple arrests on various charges of some of the most visible names in sport certainly do damage the NFL's reputation and if it kept up would start to cut into their business (loss of sponsors, advertising, etc.)

At this point I believe there is NOTHING you are right about on this board, ever. This is absolutely ASININE. How many chances does Pac Man get in your book? How much trouble does he have to get in before you say, NO MORE.

Exactly!! It's a punishment, it's supposed to be punitive!

Yeah because all that behavior really messed up the league's ascension to the premier sport over the last 20 years since the cocaine 80s heydays.
