HOU QB Deshaun Watson tore ACL - out for season

My personal doc is one of the doc's for the Broncos, its interesting because we recently had this conversation about how athletes are becoming so nimble and also building muscle so well and extensively that they are overpowering their ligaments and tendons.......just thinking out loud but I find it an intersting concept, like putting ****ty tires on a Porsche and trying to race it.

Shocked to hear about this, just the latest domino to fall in what has been a disastrous year for the league, injury wise.

One of the most fun rookies to watch, this year or any year.

Wishing him a speedy recovery and hopefully a return to form.

Looks like Rookie of the Year is back to a one man race.

The All-IR team would make a pretty strong run at the title:

QB: Aaron Rodgers (backups Andrew Luck, Deshaun Watson)
RB: David Johnson (backups Darwin Cook, Spencer Ware)
WR1: Odell Beckham Jr.
WR2: Allen Robinson (backup Brandon Marshall)
Slot WR: Julian Edelman (backup Quincy Enunwa)
TE: Greg Olsen (backup Tyler Eifert)
LT: Joe Thomas (backup Jason Peters)
LG: Mike Iupati (might return)
C: Matt Slauson
RG: Marshal Yanda
RT: Zach Strief

DE: J.J. Watt
DE: Cliff Avril
DT: Hloti Ngata
DT: Sharrif Floyd (backups Nick Fairley, Dominique Easley)
OLB: Whitney Mercilus
OLB: Tamba Hali (backup Shea McClellin)
MLB: Jerrell Freeman
CB: Jason Verrett
CB: DeAngelo Hall
SS: Quintin Demps
FS: Eric Berry (backup Malik Hooker)

K: Sebastian Janikowski
P: Jake Schum

KR/PR: Darren Sproles
Gunner: Dwayne Harris

************, this season ****ing sucks. A tremendous amount of big names getting lost for the season.

No Hightower?

Jaguars are about to actually make the playoffs. Wow.

Man, one of the few good stories to come out of the league this year, and this is how it ends (for now)? That's just brutal, he seems like a really good guy too.

Colin will be called out for being hypocrite the second he signs

That's definitely a lot but not much can be done about it unless they make tackling the QB illegal. They've done a lot to protect QBs -- I just don't know what else can be done.

Best protection against QB injury: get a good OL then tell your QB to stay in the pocket as much as possible. That won't eliminate all injuries, obviously, but those roll outs where the QB is throwing with an awkward body position is going to make for being tackled in an awkward (and likely more injurious) way. But even that won't come close to stopping QB injury.

True. But they will have to address it somehow. Big injuries are good for the small 24/7 NFL news industry. Bad news for big Sunday NFL industry. Not to mention getting new generations to the game..

Many people incl. BB explained clearly: limited practice time hurts OL the most esp. since they are coming less and less prepared for NFL from the way football is played in college.

More resources and before that real determination to fight PED could keep bodies smaller, ligaments safer. Very tough battle but some sports addressed it with significant success.

And then the use of helmets. Instead of being safety measure/equipment they are allowed to be used as a weapon. Short term gain of the spectacle, long term ruin of the game and players.

Rugby is a tough full contact sport w plenty of blood and no helmets. But the short term and long term consequences of injuries are nowhere near this.

Turfs, TNFs, inj. rules etc etc. Plenty to be done to keep top players available in playoffs . but its much easier to chase deflated ghosts..

This sucks for Watson, I predicted that he would be ROY.

Great kid, special talent, and an absolute winner.

Looks like Dabo was right when he said if you pass on him, your passing in Michael Jordan.

That sucks. Never want to see an emerging rookie star go down to a serious injury.

Good thing though that the Pats signed Hoyer yesterday or I think he might have chose the Texans.

You make points worth considering, however, one thing you're missing: what may be correct/logical vs what's acceptable as a majority/politically/PR. Too often the latter wins that battle.

Bill O'Brien can't catch a break

After the Warrick Dunn story and Watson paying it forward it struck a nerve and i became a fan. I feel horrible for the kid, hope he comes back for the beginning of next season

Wow, just heard this news. Immediate thought was 'wow, that sucks'.

Then I see over to the right a link to the latest WEEI article with a headline that "Deshaun Watson injury officially moves Texans out of Patriots' way".

I then realized that the editor and that particular writer suck even more than the season-ending injury to one of pro football's most exciting players (and good guy off the field).

Unbelievable. What a year for terrible injuries. I hope he heals well and fast.

This is ****ty. Fun to watch young QB in a league devoid of that. Silver lining I guess is he gets enough time for him to be ready beginning of 2018, as opposed to a later season injury.
