Wes Welker: A Football Life on NOW on NFLN

First off, if you missed it, it'll be on again at midnight ET/11 CT.

Just watched the first few minutes . . . it's impressive seeing the HS clips.

Ok, someone tell me again. The Patriots offered a better contract initially than what Welker got from the Donkeys, correct? A football life commentary just said otherwise.

I'd have to go back and look. I remember that they offered a fully-guaranteed two-year contract (which AFAIK is unheard of) in fall 2012.

So basically. Patriots offered less total money, more guaranteed money. Donkeys offered more total money, less guaranteed money. Correct?

No. Pats offered more total money but less guaranteed.

Here come the unappreciative Welker haters in 3....2....1..

hey...I tried to get that show but all I see on my screen is this-------->

It did not end well but damn, Welker was Bradys first down machine--it was automatic. He kept the chains moving. Brady is at his best with a guy like that. Edelman took awhile but became Welker and might even be better. Brady doesn't have a security blanket right now and is trying to adapt to the situation. Amendola is doing a good job filling in. Gronk can come up with a big play to get us out of a jam but it is not the same.

And I just remembered, the contract was also incentive based, correct?
Yep. DEN was 2/12. NE was 2/10 but incentives could take it to 16

Wes was a tremendous player for several years and could have been Super Bowl 42 MVP if they had been able to hang on for the victory. He really screwed up with his foot press conference and when the Pats ended up losing that game and his team standing seemed to get a little shakier. I think he mis-read the market for his talents a little and ended up leaving for basically the same deal as the Pats did not wait around while he was making up his mind. Wish he had made a couple important catches but his overall toughness and ability to get crucial first downs was the starting point for 10 years of offensive dominance and I hope to see him in the Pats HOF some day.

I enjoyed this episode. A lot of respect for a guy who had to fight the whole way to where he got. Also shows the football smarts Wes had. Loved that Wes and Brady would watch Montana/Rice film together.

Wes defined the slot position and was a great Patriot.

Don't forget about some guy named Cooks

On pace for 1200 yards, leads the NFL in yards per catch

My observations from the piece:

* Welker and BB had a really touchy relationship.
* No mention of the fact that Forehead Omaha just about got him killed on multiple occasions.
* Nothing was mentioned about the special helmet he started wearing in Denver.
* I really hope the concussions don't wreck his life.
* He had a lot of kids really quickly with Ms. Hooters.
