A curious thing about 2-2

Stop bringing up 2014. Stop bringing up 2016. This is a different season, and unfortunately this is a season where you're likely to see the Patriots get bounced out in the first round of the playoffs. If the defense continues to play the way they are they won't even get into the AFCCG.

Unless they had a first round bye, anything from a #3 seed down obviously has to play a WC game, so it's possible that they wouldn't even see the divisional round, let alone the AFC Championship.

They'd have to win the WC game then travel on the road to a place like Arrowhead, Mile High, etc just to battle in the divisional round. While they came close in 2006, no team in the BB/Brady era has ever gone to the SB without having the first round bye.

People still don't see that lol. That's why it's important to get a bye. They have made it a lil difficult now. They need help and need to right the ship in the right direction starting in Tampa.

Which LB's do you have in mind? How will they learn the scheme?
I don't have any specific guys in mind. If learning the scheme is the issue, then why have the guys we've had all offseason failed to do it? I merely think it is time to retool a few positions to give the rest of the defense a bit of a scare. Either this defense is talentless, or there are serious issues of effort. We've given up 32 points a game. That is the definition of Godforsaken. If that holds, there will have been 512 points scored against us all season. Let's not assume "they'll get better" without roster changes. Injuries happen and players grow restless when failure rears its head. This defense is just as likely to get worse as it is better if we don't give them a swift kick in the @ss.

Disagree. I think Gilmore is the CB that should go if anyone goes. He seems to be toxic to the DB chemistry, in Buffalo he was finger-pointing, he comes in here and all of sudden DMac is screwing up, Butler was having problems, the whole DB squad is in trouble.
Oh if it were Butler and Gilmore with the same contract, I'd trade Gilmore in a heartbeat. But in the meantime, Butler won't be here next year unless we cut Gilmore and take a gigantic cap hit. There is no way anyone will trade for Gilmore with how he's doing right now and his huge contract.

I'm going to be banned eventually for speaking the truth, but we are heading to Week 5. This team is 2-2. Don't bring up last year's team. Last year's team was 3-1 WITHOUT TOM BRADY. Once he came back the team was unstoppable. The defense was far superior. Their defense had a bend don't break type. This defense is a break all season long. It hasn't been one game. It's been all season long.

This is the worst Patriots defense since 2002. And yes, I'm 100% positive that 2011's defense was better. That's saying something.

You're not going to get banned for posts like this. It adds comedic value to the forum. I enjoy them.

I'll just tell you that most of the TD's given up by this defense were fixable. Stupid penalties and communication errors. If they fix those issues they'll become a very good defense. It may take some time but it's definitely doable. Week 4 is too early to give up on them.

Frustrating? Absolutely but I think you'll see a much better product in week 8 and more so by week 16.

Without Tom Brady, this team is easily 0-4.

They need drastic changes to the defense.

Take away two broken defensive plays and this team is 4-0 with Tom Brady.

This conference is trash this season. I can see an 11-5 2nd seed. The Chiefs are the best team currently, but playing the Broncos and Raiders will give them a few losses. Let's say Kansas City goes 13-3/12-4 and are followed by the Steelers at 11-5. With the Patriots playing like this, I'd predict they go 10-6 and the Bills go 9-7. But we can get a bye if we beat the Steelers week 15 and push our total to 11-5.

Idk about that. They gonna need to pile up the wins soon. Also they have to win their matchups with some key teams. I mentioned this team hasn't even faced the likes of the falcons, squealers, broncos etc. The squealers have a lousy conference this year. Wouldn't shock me if they sweep their division.

Brady had an off game today. He wasn't as sharp as he usually is. He missed quite a few throws, bounced one to a wide open Allen, quite a few other examples. Result showed what they gonna do, they gonna lose.

Brady's " Off game" is better then most QB's " Best game". The guy scored thirty on an elite D. He shouldn't have to be perfect.

You have to remembered though. They where down 30-16. The offense didn't exactly start well. I feel this offense will have to start being perfect soon. Have to find a way to give cooks the ball a little more.

He's not perfect but I'll be damned if I'd take any other QB. If the O needs to be perfect, then they won't win a SB. BB needs to get Nink out of retirement. Why was Jabol Sheard let go? Logan Ryan?

which two busted defensive plays will fix the 42-27 loss to the Chiefs?

OK three. But do you understand my point? Or are you one of those "the defense is a lost cause" guys..

Ninkovich claimed that he was feeling the effect of doing squats many days later, and that his body was telling him that it was time to retire. Not sure why he changed his tune with the public comments after week one, but he was pretty sure that he was done when he announced his retirement. As we know, he lost a couple of steps anyway, and the primary cause for concern to me seems to lie more within the secondary than the defensive line.

Jabaal Sheard and Logan Ryan were overpaid, although one can argue that the familiarity alone would've been worth keeping Ryan. The communication issues can only be caused by one player. Everyone else has been here. Unfortunately, that player is the one who was brought in and paid handsomely.

not a lost cause, but losing us games. plural, already. and it's early in the season, with no sign of improvement a quarter of the way through the season.

I'm wondering what happens if Gilmore gets benched? Does he blow up and become even more toxic, or does he buckle down and get to work? I think he's too big a cap hit to be cut and unlikely a trade partner would be interested in swallowing that poison pill. So maybe he ends up suspended if he can't toe the line?

Suspended? I don’t see him as the conduct detrimental type, if he’s struggling on the field it most likely would be a healthy scratch. Anyways with his contract he’s prob here for a few years at least with the cap hit

We've got no playmakers on defence currently. None. Nobody's scared to throw on any of our DB's, nobody's worrying about our pass rush, nobody is concerned about running right down our throats because no-one on our D is needs to be accounted for by the opposition.

McCourty seems to be floating around aimlessly, well off the pace. Gilmore is doing what he did at Buffalo, blowing coverages. Van Noy and Roberts should be back ups, not starters, they're just not good enough. The DL is neither pressuring QB's nor stopping the run. Nobody seems to know what they're meant to be doing.

This isn't emotion speaking, this is fact. We are the worst D in the entire league. Whether we can turn it around or not, I don't know, but at the moment there isn't very much cause for optimism, save for blind faith.

The OL is playing well below the level of last season and deserves just as much attention as the secondary. I also really don’t like how the running game looks... hard to believe losing Blount would make this much of a difference. Blount isn’t exactly AP in his prime...

The worse defense in the national football league! Who would have thunk it? I didn't think it would be this terrible. I thought this secondary would be very good and thus far it has been atrocious!

As bad as the D is, we could easily be 4-0..... or 1-3 lol
