Who says no to this trade: Eagles get Dion Lewis, Patriots get Mychal Kendricks?

Kendrick played just 23 snaps for today, and expressed he wanted a trade this offseason. Patriots meanwhile, need help at LB. With Burkhead, Gillislee, and White in the backfield, along with DJ Foster on the PS able to return kickoffs, it seems the Patriots have the depth to make this kind of trade.

Something to keep in mind though....According to Pro Football Focus, neither White, Gillislee, nor Rex Burkhead made a single tackler miss in 28 carries, meaning they gained yards until someone showed up and then down they went.

I have to believe that if given more snaps, Dion would be invaluable in producing mismatches with his elusiveness. Something tells he offers something special that can't be easily replaced.

EDIT: Though PFF argues Burkhead, White, and Gillislee did not force a single missed tackle, Dion did indeed break a tackler one of his two carries and averaged 3.5 yards after contact on his two carries. He was clearly under-used in this game.

I watched White dodge a few defenders on one run, so the stat is definitely at least a little wrong. I suppose the other possibility is that we disagree on what defines a "miss."

Moreso Darby is out maybe for the season.
Malcom Butler for Kendricks and a third rounder.

Oh, there's even more

http://boston.cbslocal.com/2017/09/08/patriots-chiefs-pro-football-focus-grades/

PFF’s shockingly poor 49.5 grade for Gillislee shows how little value they place on getting into the end zone. Yes, the newcomer went full LeGarrette Blount with three touchdowns punched in at the goal line, but overall he ran for just 45 yards on 15 carries and got stuffed on both fourth down opportunities. James White was no better, rushing for 38 yards on 10 carries (he got a “below average” 63.9 grade).

According to PFF (via the Boston Sports Journal), Gillislee, White, and Rex Burkhead didn’t break a single tackle on 28 combined carries. Burkhead earned a 64 grade on 10 total snaps.

The Patriots were considered to have a deep stable of running backs entering the season – Dion Lewis barely even played, lining up for just six snaps – but they sure didn’t play like an impressive bunch all-around, despite Gillislee’s three scores.
PFF does tend to disregard conventional stats like yards and touchdowns - instead favoring an “eye test” when evaluating individual performances....So feel free to make of this as you will.

I don't think Kendricks is worth that contract alone (now about $4.56 million fully guaranteed), which makes me think it's definitely not worth trading anything of value for the honor of overpaying him.

I say make this trade, but not with D-Lew...we still need him

Must win, indeed.

With another loss, they could end up falling a game behind Buffalo and maybe even the Cutler led Dolphins.

Not sure if your serious or not. However there's a strong chance they do get blown out in NO. Which in essence means theyll have to go on a six or seven game win streak. Not likely with Texans, Carolina, Atlanta, TB up.

Six or seven game winning streak in order to make up ground on one game behind the Buffalo Bills, who go on the road @Carolina, and who we still play twice?

In 2001 they started 0-2 and still lost three more games before winning the SB. I don't think anyone should be considering a week two game as "must win," especially in the AFC East where 9-7 probably wins the division.

Well if they looking for that bye starting 0-2 won't help. They really need to bounce back here.

A guy like mercilus would be nice but we would have to give up something in return. I think the Texans will have a rough season. That O line was putrid.

The first round bye has been critical to their SB runs. No denying that, but getting say, a 3rd seed wouldn't exactly be an automatic out in the playoffs, especially if the team is clicking at that particular time.

True but boy it has been such awhile since the last time we did that. Our defense would have to play lights out on the road but who knows. I am not scared of those other teams but this defense has to show you something this coming week. I am not worried about the offense. I think it will gel.

Now that you bring it up, I don't believe that they've gotten to any of the 7 SBs in the BB/Brady era without having the first round bye, but they did come very close in the 2006 AFCCG when they were up 21-3 before blowing the lead at Indy. They most certainly would've beaten the Bears in the SB, and had done so already that year. The point is that it's not an automatic loss with having to play an extra game, and they have shown that they have the capacity to win on the road like in '01, '04, and '06 at SD.

My concern isn't with the defense. We've seen them at the bottom of the league in yards allowed like in 2011, and still play good enough to give up around 20 ppg while going to the SB. My concern is with the offense, the loss of Edelman, currently having 2/3 healthy receivers who are in their first year here, and what would happen if another key player went down. They'll already have their work cut out for them as it is trying to build chemistry and getting those guys on the same page.

IMO it has a lot to do with confidence Brady has in his receivers and the game plan alnog with chemistry. Dwayne Allen on a long sideline pass??..

I think the short passing game is still viable particularly with the running backs we have.. Burkhead, White and Lewis are all above average receivers and they might help fill the gap vacated by Edelman..

They are not trading for MK and his $4.5m deal. Not happening.

As it pertains to the rushing attack with exception of the two 4th and 1s the running game was not the problem Thurs.
