2017 NFL Training Camp Cuts, Signings & Trades

There seem to be some discrepancies between how Overthecap and Spotrac present Austin's contract details.

According to Spotrac, Austin's 2018 roster bonus ($5m) is due 3/11/18 (OTC doesn't have those details), so, the Pats would be on the hook for that + Austin's $3m salary in 2018, if a roster bonus transfers with a contract.

Also according to Spotrac, with a post-June 1 CUT or TRADE of Austin, the Rams incur a 2017 dead money cap charge equal to the 2017 roster bonus, which leads me to believe that the $11.47m roster bonus for this season was due/"paid" in early March of this year. However, Spotrac also shows the Rams incurring a 2018 dead money cap charge equal to the 2018 roster bonus, if they trade Austin in 2017 (after June 1st). Now that I think about it, the Rams eating the 2018 roster bonus doesn't make any sense.

OTC shows the same result for a post-June 1 CUT (the Rams eat Austin's 2017 AND 2018 roster bonuses). However, under TRADE, it shows the Rams having ZERO dead money for either year, and it doesn't distinguish between pre-June 1 and post June-1. So that's the discrepancy.

In any case, both sites agree that Austin' 2019-2021 salaries average $9.4m, but also agree that nothing is guaranteed after 2018.

I am mostly amused that people actually invested time into looking into the bust that is Austin. He is a worse version of Percy Harvin. Waste of time..

Meh. I don't have any strong feelings about Austin either way. Others were interested, and I like to know stuff, so I looked it up. Literally only took about two minutes - 5 seconds to get to the info, and about 115 seconds to read it.

I acknowledge, though, that such a vigorous effort seems to be a challenge for a lot of folks.

And we made him inactive.

Without Gronk, gillislee or burkhead we win the SB.
I mean it would be great to have all stats 5 deep at every position but it's not realistic.

Not sure what you are looking to do but anyone like you describe wouldn't want to be a 5, and it's unrealistic we have 5 active WRs.
I think WR5 is a ps spot.
I'm not asking for 5 stars deep. I'm asking for a proven NFLer that can give them 300 snaps on O and handle punts and contribute on ST.

Basically I want 2005 Troy Brown.

I agree that they would BENEFIT from a WR5 that can return punts. But, do you truly feel the words "need" or "desperately" are well used here ? I think there are (at least) 25 teams that'd say this is a pretty insignificant "problem" compared to theirs...
In the punting game they are desperate

I should have maybe said I admire that some people invest time into this idea and doing proper research while the few who are throwing **** like Austin at the wall are doing none of it.

Might not fit in with the move to 3-4 type personnel but I'd still love to see him here.
Taylor was a beast in college - but he played on a DL with Clowney. Probably the reason.

During his draft, IIRC, Taylor's positives were his length and athleticsm. His negatives were lack of assignment discipline and inconsistent effort.

The question is whether that changed. Since he's not an All-Pro, probably not.

All four of his seasons with a team not noted for valuing disciplined players.
