Austin Carr and Jacob Hollister

Stranger things have happened.
I don't think that would happen, find somewhere else to lose a spot and carry an extra. If he could be the next Hogan alone he is worth keeping. Remember, it is more Brady and Belichcik that is making these guys special in my opinion)

It was really nice to see both guys showing more toughness then college tapes suggested. Showing a good work was done with both in these few months at Foxboro.

Hollister looked confident and resilient in securing contested catches and Carr showed some passion and vigor in blocking (the most negative aspect of his college tapes to me).

To say that all will come down to separation re Carr is a bit funny w so many aspects of the game. If he shows continuously he can make most of contested catches like he did on Thursday and every game in college, no one will measure separations and the could've beens that seem to come up w Lucien when game-time.

I was not your biggest fan of Carr but it seems he knows how to play games (QBs obviously like to throw in his direction) and knows how to be around people (getting Slater's patronage from the start f.e.) . the two qualities I wouldn't underestimate..

Here a nice film review on Hollister's game vs JAX . receiving and blocking:

From Wiki:

"In his senior year in 2016, Carr led the Big Ten Conference in receptions, receiving yards, and receiving touchdowns.[5] Following the 2016 season, Carr was named the Richter–Howard Receiver of the Year and was named First Team All-Big Ten by the coaches and media.[6]"

I don't follow college ball or the draft, but what do you need to do to get drafted if this doesn't cut it?
To me the answer is that NFL executives just aren't very smart.

It's funny because there's so much money at stake, but most of these guys when you actually listen to them speak, seem like freaking morons. The shift in thinking that transformed baseball hasn't happened in football, much to the benefit of the Patriots.

I don't know Carr, so not saying for sure, but you sort of see it here. Terrific production, but you've got people saying things like "I don't see the separation" or "yeah, he doesn't have the physical tools." OK, well the Pats will just take him and win Super Bowls with him, thanks.

FWIW, Hollister is currently pencilled-in to my 53-man roster. OTOH, my 53-man roster currently has 55 men.
U didn't get the memo?? "No Patchicks allowed""

I've watched the first half of the game again and will finish watching the rest later today.

I'm not sure where the lack of separation comments are coming from. So far I've seen separation. I've also seen him wide open in zones.

Goropollo had him wide open when he got sacked. (Not a knock on JG).

I admit I'm not great at film study but so far I 've seen separation. Imo, albeit against 2nd string corners.

I just don't see Carr getting in ahead of Cooks, Jules, MM, Danny or Hogan.......last year he would have pissed it.

Hollister v JOS will come down to what Bill wants to use them for, just like Jones v LeBlanc last year.

I hate to say this but if Slater's injury is serious and Carr shows up on ST and stands out, it's possible they may put Slater on short term IR or whatever it's called.

If you do the bold thing and cut Ealy, Cyrus, and Richards you will have the easiest time creating all types of 53 man rosters that include guys like Carr etc.

Hypothetically, there's already an open roster spot for Hollister, since the Pats seem likely to carry 3 TEs (+ Develin as a dire emergency 4th option). However, I'm holding off on even penciling Hollister in until I see what Lengel and O'Shaughnessy do next week (or the week after), and what Hollister can do with the #1s on offense and against #1 defenders.

Although Carr showed some receiving chops that supersede the competition level (e.g, the leaping TD catch in the back of the EZ), it seems almost certain that someone at a non-WR offensive position would need to be cut in order to keep him. To me, it could literally come down to Carr versus Brissett.

Except for the fact that you'd then be short a DE, a CB, and a safety (not named Ebner or King), you're right.

Actually, great at film study-- sounds like you just pay attention to what you actually see.

Yep. It's team building, not pick the 53 most talented players.

No, that's the point richards and jones are both untalented and useless on the 53. What is,their position? Slow unathletic dbs who get burned? Is that a position of need? Any rookie they have would be better. At least thered be potential.

And why isnt king playing safety? Is he uncoachable at the position?

Whatever it takes, Austin Carr will be a member of the New England Patriots on opening night 2017.

Short a cb and safety who cannot play and are an embarrassment to the team is addition by subtraction.

Is that good?

Oh yeah, forgot i was on an American board! LOL

'Pissed it' is UK slang for doing it easily. Last year going with 4 WR's because the rest weren't seen as good enough to warrant a place would have made Carr a great candidate for five.
