Um, how in the world do you propose they put a retired QB with 2 SB's over Tom Brady, who already has 5, could get more, and will continue his assault on the record books?

Sigh. Peyton would have had 5-6 rings if it wasn't for TB and BB. Thus the next "Peyton" will not have a BB TB combo to go through, thus it's more doable.

LOL!!! Where in the world do you get 5-6 rings for the grand king playoff choke artist of all time??? The guy has 2 rings. We beat him in the playoffs twice. It is generous to assume he would have 3 rings were it not for Brady/Belichick.

In almost 100 years of NFL Football, only 2 QB's have 5 championships: Starr and Brady - and things were a helluva lot easier for Starr back then with regards to keeping a championship team together.

We may see 6+ from Brady but given the state of the modern NFL, we will never see 5 again in our lifetimes.

Yeah, I don't think that's true. Peyton would not have beat the Rams, Carolina, Philly. Seattle and Atlanta would have cleaned his clock as well if he was still playing. And his little brother would have smoked him. I do not see Peyton beating anyone but Chicago and any corpse could have beaten Carolina in 50 with Denver's defense.

So, no TB12, no BB, Peyton gets 2. Or 1.5.

You need to look at as if the Pats and TB and BB had never existed. Gone. Never existed and the Colts dominated the AFC from 2000-2012. They could have beat Carolina and Philly. Maybe not the Rams but they had plenty of other chances.

Point is the league bent over backwards to help out the Colts. They will again for whomever they choose. How this is a hard idea to comprehend is crazy considering the evidence that is there to prove it.

1st off, Goodell and his SS squad will not be in power forever. He's got less then 10 years left.

2nd off, every Manning has their Brady. Frazier had Ali. Magic had Bird. There's always someone in your way. It's not gonna be easy for any QB to get even close to 5.

Once a team wins a few, then they will become hated. I highly doubt the other owners were cheering on the Yankees to get another title in the early '00's, just like the owners probably aren't cheering on the Pats now. Rinse and repeat. The next football dynasty will have lots of jealous haters as well.

Records are made to be broken. At some point the stars will align and someone will break Brady's records. I just hope it's long after I've passed on.

Although it wasn’t completed, no quarterback has thrown a deeper pass in Super Bowl play than Brady. In Super Bowl XLII against the Giants, Brady unleashed a pass that went 64 yards beyond the line of scrimmage, which doesn’t factor in the distance traveled across the field or how far behind the line he was. Even more amazing than the distance was the fact that the ball was slightly overthrown, leading Randy Moss just a bit too much. Had it been completed, Brady and the Patriots might have capped off a perfect season.

god d%#*!@t

If the Pats never existed, Manning still chokes against Pittsburgh, KC, Baltimore, Seattle and New Orleans. And you have no idea whatsoever how he performs against Carolina and Philly. We barely beat those teams so it's asinine to assume Dungy/Manning would do so with ease.

It is ridiculously generous to give the guy 3 rings if we take Brady/Belichick out of the equation, to say nothing of 5-6.

Gimme a break. Please, by all means, tell me how you're going to get 31 owners to agree on whom they choose to supplant Brady as the GOAT. You think Mara would support making Prescott a 5x Champion? Think Jerruh would support Rodgers? Does Irsay support Mariota?

There is not going to be any conspiracy to replace Brady as the GOAT because, no matter how much they may hate him, you could never get the other 31 to agree on who (and how) to do it. The very notion is idiotic.

Happy belated birthday, GOAT!

I will celebrate next week, when the plan is to acquire an XBox One and the GOAT edition of Madden 18!!

THANKS TO MIKE REISS

I'm pretty sure that Mike reads Patsfans.com (and, if he doesn't, our friend, @Miguel can pass things on).

This is just the BEST thing possible for Tom Brady's 40th birthday. Mike has been covering the Patriots for a long time (did he or Brady start first?) and he's called in all of his credits for this one: stories and memories about Tom from the full range of people who have been involved with him. Great individually, and a wonderful tribute when put together.

There's only one thing missing. Mike doesn't have a memory of his own in there. Which tells you about why he's such a fine reporter, doesn't it?

Heard a lot of the Reiss stories before...this franchise has been fortunate to draft this guy...to have him slip to the 6th round.

He is been on New England's Mount Rushmore (along with Big Papi, Orr and Larry Bird). He has given great memories to fans in the region.

Starting tomorrow...#OnTo41 and #TheNextOne.... Happy Birthday to a dude that has it all, yet wants more...and we are all glad he does!!...:)

Bird and Ortiz are not on the Mt Rushmore of Boston Sports. You could try to make an argument for Ortiz but its a difficult one.

In almost 100 years of NFL Football, only 2 QB's have 5 championships: Starr and Brady - and things were a helluva lot easier for Starr back then with regards to keeping a championship team together.

And -- with full respect to the great Bart Starr -- there were way fewer teams back then.
The number of teams competing for the championship during Starr's 5 title seasons: 14, 14, 14, 15, 25

As for Peyton, maybe he would have flourished and dominated the league if his greatest rival never existed. Or, maybe having such a great rival drove him to work harder and become a greater player. Who knows?

Anyway, happy birthday Tommy. I baked you a cake.

Four years ago Manning threw 55 TDs & Brady was "in decline" as he was busy throwing to Thompkins, Dobson, Hooman & had no OL.

Four years & two more rings later, Manning is hosting the ESPYs & Brady's ready to go get ring #6. BOOM

7) It’s not always pretty for Brady, but he finds ways to win. He is 7-5 when he throws at least 15 passes and completes less than 50 percent of them. The rest of the NFL is 490 games under .500 (262-752-2) in those circumstances since 2001.
I think people would hold that against him, but it says a couple things to me:
1) People respect his ability to "never" be out of it
2) He respects his run game and doesn't put throwing the ball above winning the game. I'm sure he'd like to complete 100% of his passes, but he's willing to mentally approach each snap with a sense of what is best for the team.
25) Brady has thrown 15 touchdown passes in the Super Bowl. There have been 45 quarterbacks drafted in the first round since Brady was drafted in 2000. They’ve combined for 15 Super Bowl touchdown passes.
To be fair, Brady has kept plenty of QBs from the AFC from competing in the SB :)

@QuantumMechanic you disagree with me, can you post your 4 Boston "Mt Rushmore" players?
