Not sure it deserves a thread, but it is the offseason.

In MMQB Andy Benoit has t tidbit on watching Rogers on film:

5. I think Aaron Rodgers is still the most difficult quarterback in football to reconcile. I was watching film the other night with one of my research guys, Allan Uy. What kept standing out was how often Rodgers left wide open receivers on the field. And these weren’t receivers who got open just because Rodgers extended the play. They got open within the context of the play’s design. And they were getting open because the play call was beating the coverage concept. Which means that Rodgers, reading the coverage, should have anticipated them being open. Rodgers leaves throws on the field almost every game. Other players who do this tend to be backups or fall out of the league (see Kaepernick, Colin; or Griffin, Robert). The difference? Rodgers still makes plays, even on the snaps where he misses plays. He is a unique talent and an impossible QB to classify.

We all hear about his great running, arm strength, and so on. But what he 'fails' at is the football IQ part of the job, the area where Brady excels at. This is why I get so annoyed at the people who values Rogers 'sizzle' over the 'steak' that is TB12's game. HE makes the right throw to the right guy ALL THE TIME, while Rogers is confused and having to play sandlot ball to compensate.

Some nice stuff on Gilmore and what he did the day he signed with the Pats, reading it he seems like a guy who 'gets it' and will fit in here.

Somebody post this on the packers board where they have that "The path for Aaron Rodgers to become the GOAT" thread. That'll rile em up!o_O

Rodgers is a great player. He has parts of his game we can criticize and so does Brady. Very different players. I don't feel the need to put down his game to elevate Brady. If I didn't have Brady i'd be excited to have him as my QB though i wish he was a better person though.

Here's the money line from the article :

9. I think the Patriots are the most improved Super Bowl champion I’ve ever seen. How often does a high-scoring club remake its offense after winning the title and come away even more dangerous than before?

Vegas has Green Bay is the Pat's closest competition for the SB title. Apparently they think Rogers will have a good year.

I'm a big A-A-Ron fan, he's the second best QB in the NFL and fun to watch. But this college play illustrates (at least for me) the big difference between Tommy and him. This is the iconic Johnny Maziel play against Alabama that made him a college superstar (before he became a national joke). It's not so easy to see on this video, but the middle receiver on the left is wide open cutting across the middle of the field. Brady would have recognized the coverage and hit him for an easy, but boring, touchdown. Rodgers is like Manziel; he misses the first read and makes an easy play difficult and spectacular.

If Brady and Rodgers were playing in a Nerf football league and the blitz count was 5 Mississippis, Aaron would have many trophies.

No, really. He's that good. Just ask Joe Buck.

Why do we care? Brady has a list of accomplishments that Rodgers may never even come close to duplicating . . . in fact, he likely won't. That is all.

Rogers had a way of connecting with kids. Maybe it was the sweater or just his overall demeanor. I admired his style and approach, and how he brought to life all the great characters in his neighborhood. That said, Brady had three kids of his own, IN ADDITION to three very lovely girls from his (second?) wife. That's SIX. I think overall Brady > Rogers, but I could see the other argument.

I thought this was the funniest quote of the column, talking about the guy who got the pick 6 against Brady in the Super Bowl:

"That’s where Alford played in Super Bowl 51, against the league’s shiftiest slot receiver, Edelman. It’ll be lost in history, but it’s evident on film: Alford won the battle against Edelman that day. "

Really? All I can say is, LOL.

I don't think it will be lost in history at all! The image of Brady outstretched on the ground watching Alford hot dogging in the end zone and showing him up, followed by Brady making him the face of the largest collapse in sports championship history :) Here's the play-by-play in a few pictures. I love that after the pick-6, he was the one that (a) was responsible for the Edelman cleat catch, and (b) was the last guy who White got past for the game winning TD.

I don't know exactly what it is but this analysis is in some way too simplistic. I do think Brady is the GOAT.

However, Rodgers has a over 4 to 1 TD/INT ration... and his career rating is like 104. It is entirely possible that he is so good, that his improvisation actually ends up in a better result (for him anyway) than an instant good read. (and obviously based on TD/INT ration and QB rating it is consistently excellent.)

That said, winning is the only thing that matters (Super Bowls, but also just games in general) Tom Brady is the winning-est QB of all time without debate.

Agreed, and it was Brady that Alford beat that day (temporarily), not Edelman.

There isn't a defense ever assembled that could stop Brady if you gave him a clean pocket for 5 Mississippis.

How to be misled by stats.
A major reason why his stats are that good is intertwined with his notable lack of 4th QTR comebacks.
He is so pick averse that he allows games to be lost rather than stepping up and taking intelligent chances on throws that enable game winning drives. Those #s are meaningless when you look at his systematic lack of comebacks.

Cmon Rogers has never had the same receivers and run game and Mississippis that Tom Brady has had over the years. :D

Huh. Are you saying Rogers is a System of a Down(er)? Or just a System QB?

(Best Mr. Rogers voice)

You know what makes this post special? There will never be another post like this one. Just like there will never be another poster like you. Sometimes on here we see people troll or just get mad. But I look to the helpers. The people making this website a better place. I see this post and it reminds me how many helpers are out there.
