OT - Celtics to trade #1 overall pick?

Good... no reason to pay that high of a price when Chicago has been talking about moving him forever. It's a buyer's market there.

Would Ainge trade the 3rd overall for Porzingis so the Knicks can take Jackson? I think I like that trade. Established talent that would fit the team well... and the kid would be overjoyed to get out of that mess of a Knicks team...

For Porzingas I would give #3 and Smart or Bradly.

I'm speculating but these potential $40 million/year contracts for the lucky few could be scaring teams who might not totally agree with the valuation and the cap constraints that come with such an expenditure.

Just wanted to highlight that 3 teams (NYK, Chi, Sac) have reportedly expressed their interest in Josh Jackson. Maybe just maybe Trader Danny knows what he's doing after all. If only Jackson returned the love :)

Hopefully he is going to make a move. But I would be ok with drafting who ever Ainge thinks is the best and making a move for Hayword.

I am getting confused about how things are done in the NBA.. trying to create a superteam in LA with Magic at the helm. Cleveland trying to attract another max player.. none of this makes much sense, and the future of the NBA is in question as how long can the NBA exist if you know the finals will be between Cleveland(or whatever team Lebron assembles) vs. Golden State??

If the Celtics were able to add Butler, Hayward, Porzingis and Josh Jackson it would still not close the gap..

I am beginning to dislike the NBA more and more.. Danny is doing as best he can, but as long as the inmates are running the asylum what is the sense??.. Josh Jackson refuses to work out for the Celtics unless he has guarantees, WTF is that about???

Then of course there is the hysteria on sports talk radio, all of a sudden everyone is an expert there...

I agree.

The regular season was already a joke before the super-team era, and now CLE shows you really can and should coast through the regular season and save your energy for the playoffs. Meanwhile sucker fans spend hundreds of dollars to go to the games and get squat.

They play far too many games in the regular season and have too many rounds of playoffs. Players break down from the sheer volume of work, yet the difference between the starters and the bench players is so big, they end up playing the starters too much, just to win meaningless regular season games.

Both players and owners are to blame. Their greed knows no bounds. They're gonna squeeze that last golden egg out of that goose.

Bill Simmons has Malcolm Gladwell on his current podcast, and makes some really good points about how the NBA plays too many games. He also says some things about Brady's concussion(s) that will drive people here bonkers.

What's the difference now between any era in the NBA? There have always been "super teams" and there will always be "super teams". The significant difference is right now, most of the better teams are concentrated in the West and thus the playoff disparity.

I'm not sure that's even different. During the Bird era the super teams were in the East and the Lakers were Cleveland.

The difference is that now the players control who are the super teams. Before it was management.

Or owners, really. Whoever was willing to spend the money.

I don't know, I've found the CLE/GS finals very entertaining the last couple years. I don't really have a problem with it. This narrative is nothing new. Before this it was the Heat, the Celtics, the Spurs, the Lakers, the Bulls, the Celtics, the Pistons, the Lakers, the Celtics. It's the nature of the sport and people still enjoy watching tall superathletes hit shots and dunk, so...

Boston built their Big 3 and were rewarded with 1 trophy
Miami built their Super team....2 trophies in 5 years
Cleveland has earned 1 trophy in 3 years
Golden State has only completed 1 year as a Super Team winning 1 trophy
I don't count San Antonio as a Super Team ever

My point....the formula works (each ST won at least one trophy) but it is not a guarantee of world domination

-key players get injured
-Players must often make financial concessions and few players (and agents) in their earning prime are willing to leave money on the table.
-Owners must often spend in extreme excess to attract and build deep veteran rosters that satisfy their superstars
-The post-Super Team aftermath can be ugly

I am very curious how successful the LA teams will be as they attempt to ramp up in the next couple of years. California state tax is real and it is massive (13.3%) and will have to be factored in when evaluating offers. And unlike Golden State, LAL and the LAC don't have much of a young core, especially LAC. The LA super teams could resemble the aging Celtics Big 3 era that had a very limited window to succeed

Chris Canty on MSG was saying that a top pick this year a number 1 pick next would be what the Knicks should take to get him.

I would be OK trading this year's #3 and the Laker pick next year.

Josh Jackson can't shoot pass Five feet like many other current Celtics players on the roster right now. If Danny Ainge take Josh Jackson over Jayson Tatum he needs brain surgery. Celtics need a player that can consistently fill it up I think Jayson Tatum is that player right now.

My guess: Hayward will bring the scoring component you desire now and Jackson will be an impact defensive component Stevens will deploy immediately...allowing Boston to shed Crowder. And like Brown, the plan will be to allow Jackson to grow his offensive game over time.

Interesting game by the agent. Either.....
-He's stupid because the drop in $$$ from #3-#4 is about $2.5 million over the 5 years of control
or
-Jackson wants nothing to do with Boston the city /the likely playing time available / both
Maybe.....the agent is leveraging to get Boston to commit to paying the max rookie scale (120%) allowed which adds up to about $5 million extra over 5 years verses the 100% scale $$$

NBA 2017-2018 Rookie Scale

if its #3 then the agent is severely misreading the situation. the C's arent your typical top 3 drafting team that is bad and not worried about the cap and willing to give the extra.

they need to be cap savvy and giving extra money to a pick isn't likely to be in that plan
