OT - Celtics to trade #1 overall pick?

I have no ****ing idea how anybody could watch the Finals and think Hayward and Butler gives us a chance. We'd all be sick to our stomachs while being destroyed by the Warriors (if we even make it there) in the Finals next year. You only get so many chances to pick a star. Unless you truly believe at 3 you are getting a player as good or better than Fultz, then don't do it. Period.

The firmest rumor I've heard is 1 for 3 plus Phillys 2018 and LAs 2018 both unprotected. Put together with Brkn 2018, that would likely give them three shots at the lottery in a draft loaded with gifted bigs.
If the return is 3 #1's like you mentioned ....and.....next draft is a "bigs" draft unlike this year..................HELL YEAH
This roster, as currently constructed, is woefully deficient of quality bigs. Johnson sucked and is gone, Kelly O has his moments but the overall package is lacking, and the 27 million dollar man is a jack of all trades / master of nothing. Maybe the Eastern European white guy will light it up :) . In terms of fit, I'd consider Florida State's big Isaac as the athletic big defender who can run the floor....but not with #1 or #3.
Let's say they swing this deal plus sign Heyward....better current team , brighter future. I can easily live with small steps forward until Lebron heads to LaLa land.

PS...seems to me the Ball is crashing to Earth. After watching Fox abuse Ball in the NCAAs, I'm baffled why this kid has gotten so much hype. Athletically, he was substandard compared to Fox.

3 1's. That's what it should cost for fultz. If they can get 3, the 18 laker pick and the 19 kings pick the Celtics may have to do this deal. If not just take fultz. To me Jackson and jaylen brown are pretty similar. Call it a reach but if they drop to 3 take dennis smith. Imo he's the closest thing to fultz as far as a guard who can fill up the stat sheet. Criminal how they got him all the way down to late lottery.

Assuming the Sixers 2017 #3 is just one piece of the deal.....
Would you negotiate for the Sixers' 2018 Lakers' #1 pick or the Sixers' 2019 Kings' #1 pick?
Remember..... the Celtics have the Nets" 2018 #1 pick still coming

2019 could be a special one.

That's a risky game...no telling if those Laker and Kings picks are good. We are very very fortune to have this one pick right this second.

Are you tracking high school juniors?

Yes

Lots of talented bigs and a few related to former (Manute Bol) and present (Giannis A) NBA players. Both are bigs with pg skills.

Marvin Bagley is most likely the #1 overall pick

I'd need to see the picks involved, and then think through the logic. I don't like it at first blush, but I'm not wed to opposing it.
keep in mind they want to sign Gordon Hayward or black Griffin. they need cap space for that. and rumor is they would use picks acquired in this trade to get jimmy butler. lots of moving parts.

Goodbye Fultz...Hello Josh Jackson
The Celtics are the Browns, but they win.

Are we just assuming that the Lakers take Ball? I thought there were rumors that he sucked in his private workout.

I'd rather swing big and strikeout with Fultz With the first, rather than have him possibly become a superstar with another team.

Atleast if he busts, it's on him and we can just look forward and move on. Not watch him 10 years from now and several all star selections later. That would sting a little.

The Kings pick is guaranteed good. They've got nothing and are getting nothing.

Isn't the top pick in the NBA draft insanely good and can get you a franchise type player that can completely turn things around?

Why would you trade that when you have a solid, young team already

I know nothing about college basketball or these players, but is it a deep draft?

It is a deeper draft than most years...but no Lebron, KD, Kyrie, AI, etc type commodity.
I think the depth is what makes moving down the draft a sensible move.

This package better be pretty ****in special

You're not winning the title with

Horford
Butler
Hayward
Thomas
and company

in the next couple of seasons, so why make such a move (Butler trade), if it costs you high end picks?

Center needed (big from 2018 draft)
Horford
Hayward/Brown/Crowder
Bradley
Thomas

Fultz or Fox
Smart
Rozier
Stashed foreign dude(s), possibly
Other bench guys to round out the roster

gives Boston an excellent chance to remain near the top of the East in 2017-2018, and then they grab their center in next year's draft. That gives them a, mostly, young and improving team as Bron Bron starts to age. That seems smarter, to me, than pissing away picks for Butler, who you're hoping is what Brown basically becomes.

Bottom line: I get Fultz, I get trading down and taking Fox, I get trading down and taking Ball, I don't get Jackson unless they think they missed on Brown, and I don't get trading picks for Butler.

In 2 years Butler will be 30. You don't trade high end picks for that. You just don't. It would be criminal.

People here talking about swinging big with Fultz I think are missing the point IMO. Fultz isn't a guy who gets you were you want to go i think. He makes you good but He is not a #1 on a championship team. You took a risk and it got you this. If you want that Lebron/Durant/Curry type player you will need to take another risk. Without that player I don't think they can win a title so i say take the risk. If the goal is to win titles this is the way. I'd rather have a 1/10 chance of getting a Durant and winning a few titles than a 100% chance of being in the final 8 and sometimes final 4 and maybe even a finals once just to lose and never win.

We're talking about the #1 pick here, that pick could easily end up #5 or #6. You need a legit MVP superstar if you want to win a title, you don't mess around with these picks and pass on one of those guys.
