Wow. Guess winning means next to zero to him. Oh well, interesting part is it's a 2 year deal, which is coincidently how many years DMac has left on his contract if I'm not mistaken.

As far as I'm concerned as a Pats fan, this is good news. Browns getting stronger makes it harder for the other teams in that division. I hope they can win a couple of division games.

Too bad for the brother reunion.

D backfield is relatively crowded though, so he won't be missed long.

AFAIK, Jason has played zone coverages his entire career. The Pats switched to primarily man coverages in 2011. That was a difficult enough transition for Devin, in only his second season, after primarily playing zone up until then.

As good as he may be, Jason wouldn't have been a good fit.

Didn't want him anyway unless he was making a conversion to safety. He's a zone specialist. You need to excel in both zone and man if you're going to play corner on this team.

Probably not many teams were interested if he couldn't get a better contract. Maybe should have waited till camp injuries.

Good luck Jason - you're going to need it!

Browns will be 8-8 this year. Remember where you heard it.

I assume that you have Kessler as their starting QB, then. I find it doubtful that Kizer could lead them to a .500 record in year one, or possibly any other year, too.
Yup.

I'd welcome that. Cleveland fans need a pick-me-up.
They are building a good football team. They may still have some growing pains but they are building from the trenches out and making some smart pickups.

Well, so much for him wanting to play for a winner!!
I imagine snarky fans were saying the same thing about the FAs BB brought to NE after the 2000 season.

The Pats at that time had an above average/elite QB. And Cleveland doesn't have BB.

We can still get Revis for those that don't think Gilmore and Butler can get it done.

The other Cleveland teams are doing pretty well for that town. And I think the Browns will be good fairly soon.

2 years at 3MM/yr sounds like a bargain to me. I thought it would take $5-7/yr to get him here when he first got released and the talk of him coming here was hot and heavy.

He's has been an effective NFL CB for a long time, playing on a lot of bad teams. Too bad there just wasn't any room here for him to likely play a significant role. We wanted to be a key figure and play a lot of snaps. That would have been hard to guarantee if he came here.

If we had traded Butler he would have been an adequate replacement for him. But like JG, the timing wasn't right.
