Is Brady Entering his final year?

I expect Bill does though.
Agreed. Therefore, I trust he will make the correct decision based on his knowledge & experience. But, our speculation is lacking both - so for us to guess either way is in fact just that : a guess.

Decent points made in the OP, I want to discuss the reason why we kept JG however. Majority opinions insinuate that we are keeping JG because its probably decided that he will be our QB for 2018 primarily because we didn't trade him this year. I disagree. With the facts below I think it is smart to keep him as a cheap insurance plan should Brady get injured or is under-performing.

1. He is good, works well with the team, and has potential, this is obvious.
2. He is cheap to keep entering his final year of his contract
3. We didn't need the 1st round picks, we did some amazing trades prior to the draft and the pats don't have a solid history of making stars out of 1st rounders.
4. Brady's age, why trade him when he is cheap (and solid) insurance to back up Brady should he get injured.

This gives the patriots a lot of leverage after this season and more options.

If Brady stays healthy and has another incredible year it night be time to let JG go if Brady truly looks that promising for several more seasons.
If Brady gets hurt, JG step right up.
If Brady under performs, JG step right up.

His value as a cheap backup is worth more than a 1st round pick. I think it is wayyyy too early to determine if its time to let Brady go because JG can promise us another 10+ years of success. Lets face it, he played 6 quarters.

So the answer is no. Therefore, if you don't think that he's going to announce his retirement, it's an impossible conversation to have and, much like anyone else in this thread (including me), you're simply making guess work.

I'm not making any such argument. Hence why I put the words MORE LIKELY in the post you quoted. Also notice it was in response to someone bringing up the team trading him. I could see it going either way. I can see reasons why he'll stay just as much as I can see reasons why he would retire. In the end, I have no clue what he'll do. What I DO know, however, is that he won't announce his retirement. Nobody will know when his last season will be outside of anyone in that building.
And he won't be saying he is playing 5 more years either.

This. If I were Gisele, I'd be beginning to want him out of the game that's turning the brains of so many players to porridge. From her point, he has nothing left to prove, so why risk his health for the rest of his life?

I won't deny that Brady can't take a hit, and he does, but this is more of a concern for those in a bit more of a physical position. QB's (even on a bad day) are not taking nearly the physical distress of LB/RB/linemen etc

And he won't be saying he is playing 5 more years either.

Sure he would to get the media off his back IF he planned on retiring. This is the same man that also said his wife asked him to retire after the Super Bowl then, in the same paragraph, said she was cool with him playing until he's 45. This is the same man that opines about his love of the game while making a closing remark that his kids have grown up faster than he thought they would. His responses, to this point, have been almost political. Once again, neither of us knows. I could just as easily see your argument and I can also see the reasoning of those who think he will retire. Time will tell.

He would not say he is playing 5 more years if he intended to retire after this year.
You can go ahead and write all the words you want but it won't change that.

Cards tank this year HC gets fired.

McDaniels gets the HC position.

Cards send two first round picks and a 2nd rounder to the pats for brady and edlemen.

Brady plays two more years for Arizona before retiring.

After this year, Brady's salary jumps from $1m to $14m.
After this year, Brady's cap number jumps from $14m to $22m.
After this year, JAG is going to need to either get a new contract or the Franchise tag.

Why would any team give up those 3 picks for Brady at that point?

So your opinion of Tom Brady is he is bored with football and has no competitive drive left because "he has nothing left to prove" and he lets his wife make his football decisions?
Doesn't sound like the guy I've been observing for 17 years.
You have a really odd view of marriage I guess.

First off, the answer for any player is "maybe." It's a hard game.

Brady's freakish will power might seem to argue that he'll make the play-to-50 thing work, come Hell or high water, but a guy with that kind of will could also decide one day, in the face of all expectations, most of which he has built - thinking of his wife's wishes, of his kids, of his health, of evolving interests in other areas of life, whatever - to do what a weak-willed person would be too weak to do: change his mind.

I have a funny feeling that's just what he'll do, and I wouldn't be surprised if he did so this coming year. It makes sense in a lot of ways, and in addition to the willpower, there is in Brady an overlooked coldly logical (Belichickian!) element which just might prevail.

I hope it doesn't happen, but it's a pretty cool narrative in its way, so I can dig it.

He's not retiring or leaving the Patriots anytime soon. Not for at least 2-3 more years. Maybe longer.
TB will put up another spectacular season this year.
JG will be franchised and traded after the season. (unless the highly-unlikely scenario where he signs with the Pats knowing he's a backup for a couple more years). Pats won't get the same haul they were offered this year but a 1st rounder seems gettable.

Yeah. You're right. He'd never lie in order to get someone or something off his back and take the spotlight off of him. It's also much less likely that he would lie about that for the already mentioned reasons than he would announce his retirement. Gotcha.

Now you get it.

This is the most logical and likely sequence of events But illogical behavior is pretty common in human affairs and unlikely stuff happens all the time. I'm thinking the TB12 who posts that quirky Facebook stuff might get a kick out of flipping over a few applecarts.

You think he is going to retire from the game he loves and wishes he could play forever because it would be a nice goof on some people?
Odd.

can we just all enjoy brady's final year in peace?

please

Odd.

This post was a bemused speculative addendum to my post above. I hadn't realized one is required to be so rigorously serious here, but I suppose such prigs as you are to be found everywhere.

I expect 'definitely' is a difficult assessment of anyone's future in the NFL, and more so with Brady.

Why is JAG here? He may not have received the basket of first rounders expected for an NFL trained second rounder (despite all of the claims), thus never received the value he represents as insurance (and maybe Brissett is not ready to step in now in the coach's eyes). Or maybe he is Brady's exit strategy. It would have been more telling if the Pats had to pay him this year, or extended him. Right now, JAG leaves next year.

As for Brady, I still believe he leaves the game before he needs to be moved. After the Super Bowl, it is tough to believe JAG (or anybody) would represent a value replacement (price tag and return on investment) for Brady. Is that this year? Who knows?

I suspect not even Belichick, who seems to have a sense of performance dips before the big deal, has that answer because Brady, to date, has not aged like typical QBs. In 2014, after KC, he was old and on his way out. Then not. In 2015, Denver beat the crap out of him thanks to the line play, but somehow he kept the Pats in that game after a brutal beating (JAG lasted 1.5 games, freak injury or not, so do you see Belichick betting the farm on him weathering the storm like Brady?). Last year, it was he only played 12 games, not 16. So do you really want to bet on him not being great, and the greatest for the Pats, in 2 or 3 years? I wouldn't, and that would seem to be a reach from Belichick absent tangible signs Brady has the skills to work the offense as effectively as a replacement.

You're not having a very good day, huh?
