Anyone who thinks Bill doesn't have a huge ego is not paying attention. He does and he wants to prove he knows more than anyone and is better than everyone.

If he wants to prove more the most impactful way is he needs to do it without Brady but he is not going to cut him if he is still elite cause his main goal is too win

At this point for Bill 1 super bowl without team Brady will mean more for his legacy than 2 or maybe even 3 more with him as weird as that sounds.

But like I said he wants to win first and foremost so he won't put the team in a bad spot or walk away from a QB playing elite just to satisfy his ego.
