People who are serving small sentences of 2-3 yrs choose that route, let alone life sentences. Like you said, it's not an uncommon practice.

I don't think that would surprise many. What's mainly being questioned is the part about him being bi prior to prison and being his motive for killing Odin Lloyd, who they claim knew about the "secret".

Yes, I agree with you that's it's fair to be skeptical of that. I also think it's reasonable to be a bit cautious of the whole "bi" angle, in general. As far as that goes, I'll let the facts come to light whenever they do, but I'm not necessarily going to base one story (Daily Mail, which Newsweek parroted) as solid proof that was the case. I learned from the deflategate fiasco not to jump to conclusions and trust one source.

There's certainly a part of me that wonders how such a thing could've been kept a secret, particularly in prison. I think it would be likely that someone would have mentioned this in a phone call, letter to a loved one, etc. I'm not meaning to question his sexuality either way, but I am surprised that a secret like that could be kept under wraps. Ultimately, I don't think there's much that would surprise us either way at this point.

Reports from Newsweek coming out that an officer has been fired for missing a 2:00 AM bed check, and that state police did widespread searches for various reasons, mainly looking for traces of K2, which was apparently found in his system and confirmed via the autopsy. As you already know, plenty of lawsuits have been brought up for much less. Hell yes, a potential lawsuit is on the table. There's no doubting that fact.

At this point I'm taking everything with a grain of salt, though. The Daily Mail reported that "furniture" was used to barricade the door, in addition to the aforementioned cardboard jam. I'm not sure what prisons are like in the UK over there, but I'm not aware of any moveable items in a prison cell--mainly for this reason alone, and other obvious safety hazards. I'm also terribly skeptical of their report about Hernandez giving his prison lover a 50,000 dollar watch. How would that even happen, unless the event took place prior to their incarceration, or he somehow filled out a transfer form for personal possessions? The latter may be possible, but wouldn't make much sense due to intimidation factors where a prisoner could be forced to give up personal items. Obviously, the prisoners are not walking around with jewelry. Some of these leaks are true and some are complete ********, or at the very least, need much further explanation.

Has anyone considered that he committed suicide for his family? He was rumored to be out of money, and overturning the Odin Lloyd murder conviction was a long shot. Given Massachusetts' abatement ab initio laws, Hernandez's best shot of leaving something for his family may have been suicide, as it gave his family new grounds to sue the team for remaining bonus money.
