in case anyone hasn't seen the video. whole thing took 15 seconds:

OK WTF? She initiated contact. I hadn't seen this before and it really does change the situation. This isn't violence against woman, this is a fight, one she started -- one she was stupid to start, but she still escalated it to contact against a fit and tranined athletic male, she should be the one eating the consequences here. If you can't finish what you start, don't start crap.

Hell he even gave her a last warning and (barely) restrained himself, then she hit him again. At some point you just don't need to be putting up with that. At some point protecting her actions just rewards stupidity.

It's one thing to put up with a woman's words, but if she lays hands on you first, as far as I've always been concerned, all bets are off and she's stepping into the arena. The law should NOT protect a woman who's already crossed that boundary because then you're protecting her exactly and ONLY because female. The law should NEVER protect the aggressor in a fight. Basic rules of gender equality ought to give him all the right to finish his business just as if it was a man trying to lay hands on him as long as he doesn't carry on after the fight is over.

Wouldn't July 25, 2014 be his 18th birthday so you mean barely under 18?
Date of birth July 24, 1996

So on July 25, 2014 he would be 18 years and 1 day.

The point is kids do dumb things and have trouble controlling their temper when provoked. If he was one of those little monsters who go around punching random people on the street for fun, I'd agree he's irredeemable and should never be considered for the NFL. This just looks like dumb kids doing dumb kid stuff. I wouldn't say he doesn't deserve a second chance.

Clearly the whole incident doesn't make Mixon look good. But watching the video is looks like he was starting to leave. The woman then got up and shoved him. And reacted. Then she appears to hit him in the head/neck region (hard to tell due to low quality video). After which he knocks her hard. Basically if she had been a man no one would be upset about what happened.

Good advice for anyone. Don't go around hit people in the face who are twice as big as you.

She escalated it not once, but TWICE.

Yep. Not every male decks her, but every single red blooded male on this planet considers it.

I stand corrected (dyslexia must be kicking in).

Yes. It's wrong to hit people. It's wrong to provoke people. Kids do dumb things. "No more." Round and round we go.

OK, no Mixon on Patriots. Ray Lewis killed a guy.

Honestly I think your last sentence is the moral of the story here and the thing we should all keep in mind more than anything.

Secretly I was hoping he would slide and we might "give a 2nd chance" but doesnt seem thats the case....Time to find another RB draft binky I guess

He was the ******* doing the provoking. He was following them around, harassing her gay friend, following them into a shop. Don't be an idiot.

OK, Blount punched someone who provoked him. Mixon punched someone who provoked him. The moral principal here is that it's wrong to hit someone even if you were provoked.

The lack of consistency here screams virtual signalling.

Holy crap. That's what I love about lawyers. Spin the obvious into something ridiculous.

Yep. Not every male decks her, but every single red blooded male on this planet considers it.

Usually the typical response is " This chick is crazy.....I'm out of here", and not I'm going to follow her into the store.

I think you can safely read Kraft's words as 'violence against women'.
Molitor put her hands on him first. And then did it again just to be sure, before Mixon did anything. I'd be hard pressed to call that "violence against women." I mean you can sling a lot of BS about protecting women around, but at the end of the day, men need enough equality under the law to protect themselves too. Getting hit doesn't magically not hurt just because it's a woman doing it.

Mixon wasn't sitting on a park bench minding his own business when suddenly two people came up to him and started talking ****, hit him and then he responded by hitting back. He followed those two looking to start something.

I don't know about what redemption he has sought since then and if he deserves a shot in the NFL. I haven't followed the aftermath of that event. But one thing is for certain regarding the 2014 Mixon in that video: Eff that guy.

Regards,
Chris

None of that matters once contact is initiated. What Ms Molitor did was textbook assault, and what Mixon did was warn her and back off, then she carried on the assault. You can make an argument that all Mixon did then was stop an ongoing assault against his person.

Perhaps they were both being stupid, but I've said this before -- the law is there to protect the stupid. Intelligent people don't need laws to behave civilly

Perhaps a mature person might have reported her to the police and pressed charges. Not too many college running backs are mature people, it's a position that tends to reinforce a gladiator mentality. And he had a legal right to defend himself. The only question in my mind is one of excessive force.

The law also treats kids differently than adults. Quick research shows Mixon was under 18 when he did this. Blount was an adult.
It was early morning of July 25, 2014 and he had turned 18 the day before. It is reasonable to assume they were out celebrating when the incident occurred in the early morning hours...

Not a fan, an opposing player. We will never know what he said to Blount immediately after the game but there were rumors that it was "that word" and if so, dude deserved to get lit up.......
********. The player was gloating after a major upset so Blount cold ****ed him. I don't believe for a single second that the guy who won the game, with absolutely no provocation whatsoever, just happened to throw out "that word" for no reason.

Was the Bronco player being a d---? Sure. But there's a long way from that to "that word."

Having said that, I am in the camp that says a punch to an opponent in the middle of the field is nothing compared to punching a woman in a restaurant.

I don't really feel like saying much this time around, but I'll leave this video here. Mature response from him. I hope it's genuine, but I can't really tell.

I'm still not sure what to make of the situation. On the one hand, he's served his time (100 hours of community service, counseling, etc), but on the other hand, there are lingering rumors that he was involved in a similar situation in high school (this is unsubstantiated, but gives me pause). If this truly is an isolated incident involving young kids being incredibly dumb with horrific results, and he's really learned from it and wants to make something of his life, then I have no problem with him playing in the NFL -- just maybe not on my team, though. Tough call.

I just don't get the mentality that women are somehow sacred. I understand that it was a thing back when women were not equal and their rights were repressed so much that some protection under the law and culture were necessary, but this is the 21st freaking century, women can handle their own s***. And if one wants to lay hands on me, I back off, issue a warning, and she keeps coming, I'm probably going to do something physical about it. And then still press charges because I'd be 100% within my rights to do so.

Welcome to the 21st century ladies, you've earned your equality, good job, so happy for you. Time for it to cut both ways.
