TB12 Tells Kraft he's "willing to play another 6-7 years"

There doesn't need to be major signs of deterioration that a fan would notice to put the brakes on the 7 years hype. Every single year he keeps playing at a high level is a year he beats the odds --which is worth mentioning because of how important the odds are to general managers.

Not one franchise in this league is going to give a 40 year old a multi-year leash. Not one. Brady will spend each year proving he should get to play the next one. I suspect he knows that and has come to terms with it.

And if he thinks he can keep winning that battle for 7 years I wouldn't put it past him, but it's a bridge too far for my faith.

Just like Borges and CHB etc etc Simpleton us saying that all evidence that Brady is playing great will be ignored and that he and the rest of the Brady haters will look for any off day as proof that they are right. And they will just continue to keep moving the goalposts back and insisting they are right despite the mountains proof that they are completely full of sh.t.

Any day now, Brady is going to fall off a cliff. Soon ........

Actually it proved that he couldn't make it through the 4 games he was asked to fill in for. And unlike the imaginary injury Brady's detractors are ascribing to him in the future it actually happened.

Fine, if you really want to play the pedant, here's what I was trying to say:

One injury, against a defense notable for causing injuries to QBs, neither proves nor disproves that Garoppolo will be injury-prone in the future.

Years of data and mountains of evidence say Brady IS delusional if he thinks he is going to play at an MVP level for 6 or 7 years. No one has ever done it or even come close. 2-3 more years is all even the most optimistic should reasonably expect and even that can be argued as extreme.

However, I keep coming back to that Peter king interview where less then a week after being pummeled in the super bowl with what 5 sacks and 20 big hits? He was walking without a limp and going skiing. No one has focused his diet and excersise the way Brady has. No one has the passion for fitness (his true passion in life, not football IMO) and every single year Brady continues to play at that MVP level is the greatest advertising for his lifestyle possible. It's more then just the diet though it's the kind of program he is on focusing on flexibility over muscle mass. It is a 180 degree shift from conventional thinking that someone like Gronk is peddling. The most astounding thing about it to me is that his base numbers (40 time, 3 cone etc) are getting BETTER. That is beyond unheard of its borderline unnatural.

The other absolutely key thing I got from that interview and I believe Brady, it wasn't just him saying it to sound good, is that he feels better now at 39 then he did at 29. He said that he used to get dinged up and hurt all the time, he used to feel like crap and worked his way thru it. Now he knows exactly how to feel better and survive the equivalent of 20 car crashes and it's hard for him to get hurt. That chancellor hit proves it's still possible and I agree with those who are concerned about the hit that does end Brady's career but I think the odds of it are no higher then any other football players.

I have watched Brady closely looking for that throw where he puts his whole body into it and it still doesn't quite get there. Still throwing lasers with a wrist flick. I have looked for that hit where he gets up slow like that hurt more then it used to. Bounces up jawing. Have there been sacks he took that before he could have avoided with pocket movement? Oh wait this year people had to account for him running like he was Russell Wilson...ok that might be a bit of a stretch but he was a legit threat to run if everyone was covered. Everything bad about Brady's play this year was IMO just the normal bad plays every QB has from time to time and far less of them then most QB's.

I guess to sum up my position is until I see some actual decline in Brady's play I would not bet against him because while his goals are delusional no one has trained like he has, no one has focused on the goal of playing late into their 40's like he has, and what he is doing to achieve that IS different. Will it work? Who the hell knows but if anyone can it's Brady and I would ride him until he can't anymore.

We have no reason at the moment then believe that the franchise believes this. All we have is Kraft quoting something Brady said

When you are playing GM there is a point t where you do have to ignore the statistically improbable event you are benefiting from and play the numbers game.

Nobody knows when to hold, when to call, when to let it ride and when to quit when he's ahead better than Belichick. If he chooses to move on despite all the overexuberance on this forum he will have my complete support. If he chooses to keep Brady he has my complete support. He has earned it.

Everyone attributes Brady's longevity to his training regimen and diet, but could being married to a supermodel have anything to do with it?

Something something cardio

Exactly like the claims you guys make about Brady falling off a cliff.
I haven't made that claim. I do think that there is zero chance he'll be playing in 6 years.

Nice post, thought provoking. I'm a scientist, so normally I'm all about focusing on facts and past history. Brady is nearing 40, virtually all quarterbacks have declined in production at that age, therefore one should expect he will also, blah, blah, etc., etc..

However, you really make an excellent point about Brady's passion for fitness (although I still think football is number 1). When Jordan retired, it was because he had no new challenges. Perhaps developing a completely revolutionary way for athletes to maintain top productivity into their 40's could be Brady's new passion and challenge. I think betting against Brady is a good way to go broke. ;)

Don't know if this has been mentioned, but the Pats really have to trade JG if they believe anything close to this...
Not necessarily. Not if they think Brady going down is the only thing that would keep them from contending for another SB.

Yes, you're going to use the result of one play to predict a 10 year plus career. Sound science there.

I never used it to predict anything, I said it's a consideration. You guys, on the other hand, completely disregard both Brady's ever improving performance over the last three years and his ability to stay in the field all season every season. People keep saying " Brady's only one hit away" yet disregard the fact that so is every other player, and unlike Garrapolo that Brady has shown the ability to take the pounding and keep playing.

And he thinks he will, who knows better?

( Not counting Quantum and his lover Simpleton)

I missed that when Brady stated he'd play at an MVP level for 6 or 7 more....

Link?

Does he? All we know is that Kraft says Brady says he thinks he could, thirdhand quote and nothing to suggest he actually thinks the team would let him go that long at all

His improving over the last three years is due as much to the team making improvements around him as anything else. He hasn't declined appreciably. But he wasn't over 40 then either. I do think he's lost some arm strength. He's putting much more of his body into his throws than he used to. And FWIW, he agrees with me on that. He's said he has to be even more careful of his mechanics and involve more of his body in his throwing motion.

It is what it is and we'll see. I love TB and would love if he somehow managed to magically keep himself at his pre-40 condition. But I don't believe in magic. Nor do I believe in the efficacy of avacados and concussion juice. I'd like to see TB at 50 not crippled or with cte or alzheimers.
