What are the strengths of this year from 2007 and what did 2007 roster have that was better?

This defense is younger. 07 probably had a better pass rush. This roster looks special can't wait to see how it plays out.

Everything is still on paper at this point. We don't know who will improve during the off-season and who will regress.

That said, comparing the paper 2017 team to the actual 2007 team, the 2007 team has the advantage on both sides of the trenches. 2007 and 2011 might have been the best o-lines of the BB era, but neither held up in the SB unfortunately. The linebacker unit was also probably stronger, although Bruschi, Seau, Colvin and Vrabel were near the end, and Hightower certainly could play with this bunch.

The paper 2017 team, however, is loaded at TE and as currently constructed has a ridiculous secondary (with no disrespect meant towards Rodney and Asante). And as mentioned, the QB hasn't lost a thing yet physically (if anything, has gained mobility) but has gained 10 years worth of knowledge. The WR crew on the whole is probably similar in result, but the paper 2017 WR crew looks to be more versatile and has more injury redundancies than the 2007 crew (although again Moss and Welker can play on this team any day of the week).

I wouldn't say this team is better than 07. It's different in a lot of ways. Maybe that's a good thing.

The team is not complete yet (though not likely to get any good starters, perhaps role players, via the draft/UDFA).

2012 offensive line was awesome

WR corps and defensive line were better in 2007, Brady was (slightly) better in 2007, edge rushers were better in 2007.

OL, TEs, secondary (with or without Butler), RBs, and non-edge LBs are all better now.

I dunno if this team is better necessarily, but it can win in more ways, which matters a lot over the course of a playoff win. As always though, health will probably be the determining factor.

THe 2007 team was much older they ran out of gas down the stretch.
