True. For 1 million a year it might not be worth it but for 3 more (big assumption that that's what the offer from NY is) sign me up
Oh, please. His family will be ridiculously financially secure regardless. There are other considerations, such as whether or not he wants to move, pull his kids out of school, what his wife wants, work satisfaction, coaching, teammates, locker room, championships, local endorsements ... stop pretending like taking a better job for $2M less a year will all of a sudden make him not rich.Yes as it turns out I would put longer financial security for myself and family over making a few sports fans happy
I don't think it makes that big of a difference in Hightower's case how much money he'd make off endorsements being or not being a HOF linebacker. Someone like Ray Lewis or Bruschi or Urlacher (better-known faces, more vocal, etc) maybe. But Hightower is too much the quiet type for it to be that big a deal.Probably a lot. Endorsements. Autograph signings.
To be fair, he has played them twice a year, every year, for the last five years.
He knows how bad they suck. He also has to know that he alone can't change that, no matter how many cupcakes they give him.
While I agree with much here : you can't be 100% certain he (1) loves his job in NE (2) sees the job in NY as much, much worse.Oh, please. Quick question: if you were already financially secure, would you uproot your family and leave a job you love for one you hate solely for more money?

I don't disagree. My point is that, for some people, there are considerations other than money. While I agree with much here : you can't be 100% certain he (1) loves his job in NE (2) sees the job in NY as much, much worse.

Besides he doesn't have to be a Patriot to make it to the HOF
'SBNation had an article up that said Hightower resigned with the Pats. Article has been taken down now though.
Dont'a Hightower spurns Jets' cupcakes, re-signs with the Patriots

If he wants to sign with the Rats for 13m, good riddance.
I will never forgive him if he chooses that rathole.
I would never sign with those bastards, even for 3m more.
Well, if you can live comfortably off of 100K a year, the extra $3M will never matter, unless you keep it in a mattress. If the job was literally just changing my damn uniform and it was a 30% increase in salary? You bet your ****ing ass I do. I suck it up and I take the money. It's not about whether 10 million is "enough" it will never be more than 13 million. 3 million more over the course of 4-5 years makes it 12-15 million MORE in the long run. I could live a nice comfortable life off $100,000 a year. That Jets contract would give me an extra 12-15 years of "living comfortably," either for me, for my children, for my grandchildren, the next generation after that, etc.
Yes, other factors will come into consideration. If the $3 million/year more than compensates for those factors why not take the money? Because teh Jets suckz?
I marked this as funny because misery loves company, not because I am laughing at you. I am not getting any work done at all.
