Butler's agent in search for 1st rounder + big contract

You rely see restricted free agents act like this...he is acting as if he is a ufa and the pats are holding him back.

Im somewhat confused by why his agent is acting this way. He was perfectly content to play for 300k last year. But now 4million this year and hit the karket for big $$ next year is not good enough.

They want to hit the market for big $$ this year when that is not how rfa works

Butler's agent Derek Simpson has ONE client in the NFL and his client is playing for BB.

Yep, he had no idea who he was dealing with. BB isn't going to loosen up for a player, no matter how good he is , he cares about very specific stats and he cares about the contract rules of the NFL.

Butler could get Gilmore's money with the Pats, just not this year.

If Saints give him an offer it would be for the Saints pick which is #11..

The Saints would likely want a direct trade that allows them to avoid giving up the #11 pick... but it is very ironic :D

One should always remember where he came from .. and who made him..

Is this in reference to the pats making butler and butler not being responsible for that for him self?

Signing Gilmore and paying him $40m GTD while leaving him out there earning peanuts was always going to create resentment, he's never playing for the Pats at the tender number if he doesn't get traded he'll hold out until mid season until the deadline where he still gets a credited season.

Yeah the marriage is over.

La Canfora said Butler was a part of the Cooks trade and was wrong about a few more notable things lately.

Seems like he just throws **** at the wall on twitter and hopes something sticks.

So I don't know how Bulter's agent contacting teams to see if they would part with the RFA tender compensation of a first rounder to do a deal is the Pats' shopping. As a RFA, Butler has every right to try to get a contract somewhere else. He and his agent can contact any team they want until he signs the tender or the deadline to sign the tender passes.

For all we know, the Pats are letting Butler get a deal somewhere else and then will match the offer.

These things almost never happen. There's a small opening if a playoff team looking to draft a CB doesn't mind the cost as an offset to the risk of the draft pick being a bust. More likely, though still unlikely, is finding a team willing to agree to a contract then trade multiple later picks (as agreed to with Patriots). Then Butler could sign the tender and be traded for the agreed upon price (a 2 & 3 this year and a 3 next year or whatever). Both longshots though.

Not sure how this is any different than his RFA status?
Same thing, just being reported that they're actively trying to get it done and that the Patriots likely wouldn't match. I wouldn't be surprised if some teams don't bother with RFA, assuming the previous team would match.

Kind of feel bad for Butler because his agent is doing him no favors. No team is parting with a 1st round pick to give him Gilmore money or else they would have just signed Gilmore.

But just so people are ready for it if and when they can't find a team do that Butler's idiot agent will likely advise him to sit out as long as he can without it effecting his UFA status. So could be very possible Butler doesn't play until I think week 9.

I doubt this will happen. He will sign his tender and will be ready for the off season program.

Well the other point to that is so much for those "reports" that there was a 2nd part of the Cooks deal that involves Butler. Pats can't trade him if he finds some team to do a sign and trade or if he doesn't sign his tender.

Definitely the most likely scenario. Of course, once he signs he can be traded and the acquiring team gets a fairly cheap year before the need to extend (like us with Cooks except we get two cheap years - about 2 /10M combined).

We'll see. I love me some Butler, but teams usually put out of this world value on 1st rounders & they may not like MB as much as hometown fans do.

Right but there could be a part 2 that would obviously be contingent on him signing the tender with us.

This really has escalated. Either way, I will always be ok with the player being selfish in the off-season. Butler has been nothing but a great soldier during the season but he owes no one nothing but himself in the off-season.

Butler is an RFA. He has 4 options:

1. Sign the tender and play under it
2. Try to get another team to give him an offer sheet that he will accept.
3. Sign a long-term deal with the Patriots, or
4. Hold out like an idiot and repeat this next year.

His agent is doing what his agent should have been doing since day 1 of free agency. Nothing has "escalated." The player is not under contract yet and has every right to pursue offers as well as discuss long-term options with the Patriots.

The Jets have a weird fetish with our players. Send us that high #1 for the Super Bowl hero, Woody
