Butler's agent in search for 1st rounder + big contract

Kind of feel bad for Butler because his agent is doing him no favors. No team is parting with a 1st round pick to give him Gilmore money or else they would have just signed Gilmore.

But just so people are ready for it if and when they can't find a team do that Butler's idiot agent will likely advise him to sit out as long as he can without it effecting his UFA status. So could be very possible Butler doesn't play until I think week 9.

Stupid question, but can't we keep Butler and still sign him to a big contract? I don't understand how the RFA tender thing works.

This really has escalated. Either way, I will always be ok with the player being selfish in the off-season. Butler has been nothing but a great soldier during the season but he owes no one nothing but himself in the off-season.

Well, I don't know about this strategy..
Lombardi seems to be right again.

One should always remember where he came from .. and who made him..

See ya, Butler. You deserved better... and by that I mean your agent. He f_cked you over, buddy.

I hate this, but I saw it with the Gilmore signing. Butler should have been a Patriot for the next few years. I'll miss seeing him in our secondary.

I don't think that is "Butler being shopped" (which sounds like the Patriots are "shopping" him) as much as it is his agent trying to sell his client to other teams, which is actually his due diligence and responsibility.

As for what the Patriots would "be cool with" they really don't have much say in the matter. Well, I mean, they can always match whatever offer Butler gets but if the Falcons at 31 do a deal with Butler, the Patriots will have to settle for that pick (or match the offer).

Makes sense for him. Although I hope he is not successful. I like the thought him playing opposite of Gilmore more than the unknown of a rookie. Even if it's a first rounder.

Yeah, this made the most sense in my mind the moment Gilmore was signed. Having both would have been awesome this year, but there was always the potential of a holdout or locker room implosion (players taking Butler's side). Pats appear to be happier taking a mid-first this year than having Butler this year, risking the above, and getting pick 97 in the 2019 draft.

As a fan it's such a shame though. If there's one guy other than Brady who embodied the Patriot story, it was him. So sad it's come to this.

Sign High and let Butler go play with his buddy in Cleveland

Could see an agreement with the saints for the return of pick #32.
Saints have less than 16M on cap space. If Butler is indeed looking for "Gilmore Money", the Saints will need to move some pieces around

Not sure how Butler's agent is being an idiot here. His client is a RFA so he is trying to find the best deal for his client and seeing who is willing to pay the price. The worst they can do is say no.

If nobody offers him a deal that he agrees to we keep him for $4M this year or we can trade him if we want. If he agrees to an offer sheet we have the ability to either match the offer, or he signs with the other team and we get that team's first round pick.
