There will definitely be some 40 point showings, maybe a fifty burger or two.

It's going to be a very fun year. Sit back and enjoy the show folks. Can't wait

Brady , Gronk, Cooks, and Edelman....

This is what our reaction will look like while we watch defenses try to stop them....

Yep, that's 3 guys who have to be doubled.

According to the Saints board Belichick is going to do Payton a favor later on and give him Butler for a mid round pick...
It says a bunch of (presumably non 1st round) picks. Not "a mid round".

hesitant to put this out there but: 2nd part of Cooks deal involves butler & an amalgam of picks. Cooks deal shouldn't be viewed in a vacuum

Apparently the Eagles offer was Malcolm Jenkins, a 3rd and a 4th for Cooks.

It says a bunch of (presumably non 1st round) picks. Not "a mid round".
And that would make it any better? The Saints would have to cough up their 11th overall if they gave Butler an offer sheet. Belichick trading Butler to them for anything less than that would just be doing his buddy a huge favor for no reason.

Let's play 'what would Malcolm do?'.

Sign his tender and get traded to a **** team with still no long-term deal.

Or make said **** team make him an offer sheet for an incredible amount of money.

I pick option 2.

Let's play 'what would Bill do?'. Nah, forget it that's an impossible task.

Not to put a damper on this ***********, but I will.

First of all this isn't a move down from 103 to 118. Thanks to our "good friends" from Park Ave in NY, its a move from 103 to somewhere in the 140's. So lets end that fantasy right now.

Right now our first draft pick won't come until the 72nd pick. Not the ideal place to find a starter or even a rotational player that will help you long term. I COULD happen, but it would have been a lot more LIKELY at 32 and 64, as WELL as 72

Secondly lets stop all this crap about Cooks being the next coming of Antonio Brown or Julio Jones. He's not either. I was going through some Saints fans comments about the trade and notice a surprising constant theme even from fans who didn't like the trade. That was that we shouldn't expect much YAC from Cooks, as they claim he goes down too easily.

Naturally I took it with a grain of salt until I watch a couple of the highlight clips we have posted here, and just like they said, the only time there was any YAC was when he beat people deep and ran away from him. I never saw him make anyone miss or run through them. AND that's from the highlight reels.

Secondly Some fans, possibly disgruntled, called him an indoor player who might not thrive in the elements of Gillette and the AFCE. So I went back to the highlight clips and true enough, on the one from 2016, most of the plays on the reel either came from home games, or when the played in AZ.

This isn't to say he'll be some kind of bust, but to offer some legitimate questions about the move and just what we should reasonably expect from him. High expectations can kill, and from what I'm reading the expections are way too high. Let him earn some of them before we crown their asses.

Next, even if it comes to pass that this kid is as great as our hopes, it's more likely than not that this kid is going to be a 2 year rental. BB is NOT going to pay a 5'10 speed guy, top dollar. He wouldn't play Randy Moss top dollar. So lets not assume Cooks is going to grow old here.

Finally somewhere I read comparing this kids skills to Terry Glenn's, and it clicked. That is a GREAT comparison. (and I LOVED Terry Glenn as a player). If it turns out to be true, I'll be thrilled. However the offense that Glenn thrived in was quite different from the one we have now. It will be interesting to see just how well he adjusts to challenge, and believe me it will be a challenge to come into this offense. It is for ANY new WR, Cooks will be no different. Regardless of how good he is or isn't THIS season, I'm sure he will be better the next year.

Again. It was a nice pick up of a very talented WR. I don't hate the player. But to me, just too much to give up for a luxury item. This will make 2 years in a row where we will be trying to find gold in a place where gold is VERY rare and you have to be very lucky to get some. We were VERY lucky last season. Hard to do it 2 years in a row.

Well, you should have given Bill the heads up!

Oh. Got it. On second thought......we're doooooooooooomed

Cooks is a very legit vertical threat. You put Gronk, Edelman and Cooks on the same field at once it's going to be something special. We have three guys who often need to be double covered, it's going to be really ****ing hard for teams to shut all three of them.

Doesn't hurt when you have a depth of solid receivers in Hogan/Mitchell (for sure) and threats out of the backfield. If Lewis regains that explosiveness in his second season back, the offense has the potential to be off the charts.

Are we talking about the same trade? This trade was an absolute steal.

The Patriots overpaid for the player*. Sometimes that's the right move, though, and I think this is one of those times.

*Assuming there's not another shoe to drop, that's not (wink) part of the deal.

You know he played at Oregon St. right ? Sure, it's not freezing cold but it gets cold, windy and very rainy.

Don't try so hard, we got a great player for 2 years then we'll see. Don't fight it.

Go back the last 5 drafts, Players the Pats have picked between 32 and 72:

Ras-I Dowling
Shane Vereen

Tavon Wilson

Jamie Collins
Aaron Dobson

Dominique Easley
Jimmy Garoppolo

Malcom Brown
Jordan Richards

Cyrus Jones.

Of the 10 players, 3 contributed significantly, a fourth will likely yield a nice trade or will contribute hugely.

And maybe Cyrus Jones will come around. But how many years do you actually get out of a draft pick, even one this high? How many years are developmental (Cyrus Jones, Shane Vereen)?

How many players there do you think added, or will add, more to the Pats than Cooks is likely to add?

He's a 1st-level NFL receiver who is dirt cheap for the next two years, given his skill level, and has had two 1100+ yard seasons in a row on a team that spreads the ball around.

I get what you're saying here, but come on, it's very likely the Pats will need a separation receiver, a grade A receiver, in the next couple of years. Amendola is a spot player now, Edelman has been getting a lot of dings, Mitchell is still raw (though promising), and Hogan is what he is, which is pretty good as long as he's not the primary target.

The Patriots this year had several 1st rounders - Cooper, Long, McClellin, Floyd, none of whom gave their teams as much as Cook has produced (except maybe Long). These were top-half of the first round picks. Cooper was "can't miss."

I like guys who have shown they can play when it matters and with the big boys.

And I don't think Jimmy G is going to the 12th pick. I think the Pats want #1+ (and the Browns should do it).

Let's say BB kept the first-rounder and used it on a young stud linebacker who would start for the next five years, then found a running back with the other pick who supplanted Blount, or a promising OT.

You are skipping the most difficult part of this argument: Identifying players that might be that "stud linebacker for 5 years" at #32. It is like Lombardi says, draft picks are highly overrated until you can attach an actual name to that pick.

If you trust what various GMs say in interviews then the percentage of starters in the first round is a little bit above 50%. And that number is most probably skewed a lot by the top 15 relative to the bottom 17 picks. And that number only gets worse over the following rounds.
