Pats not trading Garoppolo - Schefter

Maybe......but what will you say when Brady's play goes off the cliff in 2018 while JG becomes the next drew Brees?
Good point and I am a Pats fan so that would make me happy if Jimmy G becomes Brees (top 5 ever in most passing categories) while with the Pats.
But if that happens, I don't know what I will say, because I have the odds of that happening as pretty low.
Jimmy should be a good starter some day, but I am in the minority on this site, that I don't see him winning multiple SBs for the Pats.

Edit - I was originally just kind of playing devil's advocate on your no such thing as a sure thing post.

Jimmy should be a good to great starter in 2018. If he gets to play 2017. I think Jimmy's first year as a starter will be good and if he stays healthy he will eventually be a great starting QB. Will he ever be Brady? **** no. Will he be better than Brady when Brady is 41 years old? Maybe. When Brady is 42 years old? most likely. So basically if you use common sense you have 2 more elite years of Brady. And then JG takes over in 2019.

This causes issues of course if thats what they are thinking. I have never heard of a team paying 2 QB's top money. And its also telling Brady we are moving on with JG in 2019.. how would Brady feel about that knowing that they are spending money on his replacement rather than maximizing there assets to winning another Super Bowl.

Bottom line if your the Patriots your thinking Tom has 2 more years left of elite level play. And another year or 2 of declining play before retirement.

So if BB thinks JG is the next best QB they can get for the foreseeable future are you really going to trade him away or figure a way to keep him.

What is that really saying though? It's a virtual certainty that Brady will still be considered "elite" next year.

I was responding to a post that said that Brady not showing his age next year is not a sure thing. So that elicit my response.

A million to one. Brady being elite next year is an almost certainty baring injuries. Garoppolo could end up being injury prone or just not that good for all we know and never see ten more years in the League.

What are the odds of posting a 2014 SB Sig for a 2016 SB season?

#12 pick = Bama TE OJ Howard

Showing who we have been targeting we might target Ross at that spot.

OMG. So let me get this straight. A few days ago Schecter reports that the Pats won't trade JG under any circumstances, and within a day its being commented on as if it came from BB's lips himself. Now, someone (I have no idea who, nor do I care) claims that the Pats WILL trade JG, but only for two #1's.

WHEN ARE YOU PEOPLE GOING TO LEARN!!!!!!!!! (sorry about that). How many times are we going to fall for the same crap. The media has no clue what is going to happen to JG over the next 7 weeks. Those are just THEIR opinions and speculations and they are NO better or informed than ours!!!!

Now I'm not claiming to have any idea what is going to happen, and while I know what I would LIKE to happen, no one knows....except Bill and his staff. Again, I'm not pissed at fans or the mediots speculating, yes he will, or no he won't or how much it would take. That's the fun part.

What I AM pissed at is that within hours every SPECULATION is suddenly being reported as FACT, and that "fact" then becomes the subject of further speculation. Like when it was a "fact" that JG wasn't on the market, Tom Brady's immediate future became the hot topic of a lot of speculation, so was JB's.

So while I look over the last couple of pages, I see some people getting all hot and bothered and arguing stuff like its a FACT, when it's only speculation, just like we did when it was a FACT that JG would be a Patriot next year. Clearly the mediots know how to pull our strings, because we seem to bite at every clickbait they offer. like starving dogs. When are we going to learn.

Just sayin'

Hey I've been saying for months that if you want to report on whether or not the Patriots are trading Garoppolo, don't go to Patriots sources. Go to the team potentially interested in him, and find out what they're offering.

But no team interested in JG is going to negotiate in the media. Just about every deal the Pats ever do, from Mingo, to Van Noy, to Collins came with ZERO rumors in the media prior to the trade. Why would JG be any different.

What is going on now is like when the mediots pick the winners each week. They go on one station and pick one team, then go on another and pick another. Then on Monday they claim victory. What we have now are the mediots picking every possible scenario for what will happen in JG, then when the results are in, they will take great pleasure in telling us "I told you so."

The two firsts report came from a Cleveland mediot so take that for what it's worth.

I'll take that bet.......oh but you're not a betting man......which is why your 'million to one' is completely meaningless

an injury is what permanently disables a 40 year old QB

Garoppolo could wind up being better than Brady and last as long as Brady......that's exactly what he showed in his time on the field

what this comes down to is you simply believing that you want to believe....otherwise, you would make that bet to get that guaranteed dollar

in his time on the field, JG showed more than anyone in his first couple of starts.....he's been trained and he is ready....he is twice the QB that Brady was in 2002 (3rd year)

I don't think people realize how at his age, how quickly Brady can turn into Steve DeBerg

the bottom line is that the Pats are in the drivers seat regarding any potential trade of JG

The Browns can think that they're playing hardball, but it comes down the plan to turn the team around......who else is there besides JG.........they will either give themselves a chance, or they will suck again.......the cost of that chance? AT LEAST 2 #1's

Yep, I don't even see how they can entertain the thought of being able to control the whole thing. They are the desperate team that needs talent to improve. We will still be right in the hunt even without their picks and Jimmy on the bench.

Absolute worst case we get a third round compensatory thing out of all of this but at the same time less worries about a season being over via Brady getting dinked.

I was in my car listening to Cleveland sports talk radio (radio.com is great) n the hosts there insisted that a number one this year and a fourth rounder would do the trick. Both hosts and virtually all of the callers did not like the two number ones proposal
That is encouraging because sports talk guys and the callers into their shows are wrong more than any other cross section of people on earth.

I agree with the second paragraph but not the first. I don't see how you can say JG is twice the QB Brady was in his third year when JG has only played a little more than 5 meaningful quarters before being injured. He shows a lot of promise and played pretty well in a limited time.

I thought the Pats would trade JG but I also think Andy Johnson is right. JG is hard to trade for two 1st rounders. If they get a 1 plus anything else, that's a pretty damn good deal. Let's hope I'm wrong and you're right!

Absolute worst case is we don't even get a compensatory because they are not guaranteed.

Sorry but you got conditioned to think that by the media. No player in any sport will suddenly decline over night without suffering some kind of injury.

This is a process that happens over time. You might say that it happens quicker with older players but we are still talking months not from week-to-week. And generally injuries have to do with that. You could see the end coming with Manning almost 1.5 season ahead. This was not something that just happened over the offseason.
