Hightower: 2 SBs, 2 NCAA Titles. Has anybody else done this?

I would be willing to bet Hightower isn't the only one, but I'll have to dig a little. One guy who came pretty close--Grant Wistrom, who was a DE on the back to back Nebraska machine in 94/95, then won in 99 with the Rams but came up short in 2001 because Marshall Faulk and Kurt Warner were unable to stop the Patriots from cheating all over their dumb smug faces.

Or Paul brown

Or "Brown Bomber", Joe Louis, when the owner held a contest for the fans to choose in 1945.

Sure this is a forever discussion on the Browns Message Board, not much else to talk about, except the crappy decisions that have been made for a long time now.. ..

I read a fascinating story on Paul Brown a couple of years ago. Paul Brown requested that the team be named after him as part of coming to take over as head coach of the Browns.

He started as an assistant high school coach who took over the team when the head coach wasn't able to keep coaching in his first year as an assistant. He ended up winning state championships and then going to college and winning there as well before finally going to the pros.

Thanks...I was actually genuinely curious if anyone else had ever done this. As an aside, I learned after posting that Hightower was injured (ACL) for his first Alabama title, but he was still a member of the team.

Those people would then go in a list of people whose opinions are worthless.
Hightower is an absolute beast. He can do everything a LB does. if BB was one of those coaches that would put Hightower full time as a pass rusher he would probably lead the league i sacks. He defends the run as well as a top 5 LB and plays the pass well unless he is isolated on the sidelines one on one with a guy 70 lbs lighter.

Hightower has made some big plays, but surprisingly, for a middle linebacker, he really hasn't made that many tackles. When I saw his stats, I was shocked at how few tackles he actually makes. Just 31 tackles this past season, in 13 games. That's just 2.4 per game. Mayo made 98, 70, 114, and 87 tackles in four of his seasons.

But I think Hightower is better than Mayo was, so clearly tackles isn't the sole determiner of LB play. I am just surprised at how few tackles Hightower actually makes.

Tackles is a horrible way to judge LB play. First of all you get tackles by being run at. Secondly in today's games lbs are making a lot of tackles by allowing catches in the passing game.
Hightowers role is nothing like mayos was. Their positions are both called LB but their responsibilities are very different.
