It is hard to find really good football content but if you look hard enough some exist. I think this guy is great! He really knows his stuff and I have learned a lot watching his videos. Clearly has a lot of real football experience (he talks about it here and there as he did coach at a reasonably high level) and it shows.

Edit: You know I just looked at the "Do You Expect Rowe to be picked on thread" and saw this was posted right after my last comment in that thread. @Vindicate posted it 11 hours before I did.

So looks like I was behind the 8 ball on this one and as he posted it first he should get credit for this thread.

q/This clip CAN'T be put in too many threads. It is a great clip by a great analyst.

2. Rowe is what he is and he had a very productive year for us because the Pats knew exactly what his weak points were.

3. As to the OP, I think he's a perfect match for Saunu. He's go the size not to be bullied by Mohammed, and he is a match in speed. I can see Ryan on Jones with Safety help and Butler on Gabriel matching quickness with quickness.

4. But that's just basic stuff. A key for the Pats is NOT give Ryan anything consistantly. In other words be exactly the opposite of the Falcons. They Falcons have had a great season becaue they "do what they do". The Pats have had a great season because they don't ever "do what they do"

5. I think Chatham gave ys an important insight that I think we'll see a lot of, and that the emphasis of the Pats to chip the RB's every time. That will of course slow down the outside pass rush and frustrate a lot of the game day posters, but if you recall it's what the Pats did so beautifully back in 2001.

6. Ryan relies on his RB's as his comfort throws, just like Brady does to some extent. In order to make Ryan uncomfortable taking away that part of his game will make the entire process harder for him. It also makes it critical to get some inside pressure in Ryan's face.

7. One way to pressure Ryan and confuse him will be to do some kind of 7 or 8 man look on the line where only 4 people rush, but it's a different 4 every time. We HAVE the people who are versatile enough to make it work. Again we don't want to let Ryan be comfortable in his reads when he gets to the LOS. Seattle (as we saw in the clip) never changed what they did and Ryan ate it up.

8. Those are just random thoughts. I have no idea exactly what they ultimately will do, but it will be something that stops the run with 7 people, and drops 7 or 8 most of the time.

Some great points that I had in mind were reinforced by his video, and also points I didn't consider as much, such as hitting their RBs because anytime they are in space they will shred LBs including ours.

Butler on Gabriel
Ryan on Julio with DMC over the top
Rowe on Sanu

Is this a game where we play 4-2-5 as our base defense, as we will likely play Chung like a LB meaning Harmon gets tons of snaps?

In order of importance:

Attention on their RBs
Limit their playaction
Make Ryan sit back and pass (putting 7-8 guys at the LOS and rushing 4 different guys every time would be a good concept to use to make him take just a bit longer than normal for him to make his reads, force him into a mistake)

"This guy"???? Bob. you're posting like you just came to Patsfans, LOL.

Well worth its own thread.

And encouraging too. As Chatham said on Twitter, Green Bay were pretty much a master-class in how not to do it. Don't blitz if that means allowing a back to catch the ball with no one within ten yards. If you're covering, match up on somebody. That looks do-able, whatever the individual talent of the secondary.

As long as there are no fights or fumbles where Rowe is pulling Falcons off the pile, he is going to be fine.

The "Route Disruption" and parts about letting the RB run free perfectly matches something I read in Belichick and Brady (by Michael Holley). The Patriots rely on selfless players because, for example, a rushing defender is required to chip the RB coming out of the backfield. That decreases the chances of a sack and there are no stats kept for "Chipping the RB coming out of the backfield." But something simple like that goes a long way towards disrupting a pass play.

Good call. I can't find it now, but D-Mac recently (I think) spoke about how Big Vince came to the secondary meeting room years back and basically told them to let the guys up front defend the run. He elaborated that if a DB was supposed to be in deep cover and made a great run stuff tackle for no gain - that's no good for the defense because that person was way out of step with where he should've been.
