Is This Season A Success Regardless?

I know its too early but I doubt this is the last time they go to the Super Bowl, with Gronk coming back next year and with more than likely Bennett resigning with us and possibly Floyd I think we can be just a good of a team next year than this year if those few things pan our way plus whatever Mastermind Belichick comes up with as well
Plus, what elite QBs are left in the AFC outside Carr? Peyton is gone and Ben is close.

Can't win every year. It's hard to say whether it successful or not, I guess technically maybe it's not because the goal is to win a Super Bowl. But it's still a good season if we lose. It's hard to make super bowls despite how easy these two make it look. Winning games is hard enough

Sorry to be spoiled - but we all are. It's another season during which it would be a major drag not to win the big one.

Brady's shown no signs of slowing down, but he will. It might be next year, it might by 5 years from now, but "soon, and for the rest of your life."

No illusions. He doesn't give a damn about any of us. There's no reason, actually, that we should be rooting for any of these guys, or for any of these owner.

But just try believing that when that team takes the field.

These guys have been phenomenal over the last 16 years. I fully expect one day to think "wow, we went 8-8 and almost squeaked in... we'll get into the playoffs next year..." (unless my heart gives out or something first.)

But that day is not yet, and I hope it's still a long time off. For the bandwagoners here who've never experienced that.... every chance at the big one is for some fans a once-in-a-lifetime hope. Thank God I was born a Pats fan.

I can't get myself spoiled enough to spout some ignorant crap like "Unacceptable. They lost the super bowl," like some dufuses.

But I do really, really, really want them to win it.

So is being 31st out of 32 teams a "losing" season? Ehhhhh hard to support, hard to explain, but it sure would feel that way. Of course, you get to wait a few more weeks before finding that out .

It would be a bust. I sense the rhetoric from the mediots ready to pounce on 4-3.

When you have the best QB of all time and the best coach of all time, its SB or bust. High expectations come with being the best. So no, its only a success with a W.

.

Who doesn't give a damn about any of us? And why does it matter? I don't understand this statement. Are you talking about Brady?

i think if you offered that jaguars a super bowl loss this year, they woulda been elated

It's all perspective sure but there's no way they go into that game thinking a loss is fine.

I didn't in 01. I definitely didn't in 96.

Remember. We used to be the jaguars.

I got 5 out of 7 numbers right on a $60 million jackpot. Was that a good ticket? Being happy with second place is the ugly cousin of having excuses for losing

I want this one so much because of all the bs with ****dell. It would be great karma. I feel the guys will have that extra chip on their shoulders.

Mo Lewis should have his number retired by the pats lol

Well, big picture, yes, any season you make the SB is a major success.

Big picture/in-context....no. This is a 14-2 team with the #1 defense and an elite offense, there is no reason for the 11-5 Atlanta Falcons with a second year coach and an absolutely garbage defense to beat us.

We are clearly the better team.

5-2 is better than 4-3 in Superbowls.

They are the first team to appear in nine, and are currently 4-4. Having a winning record, to go along with the record for most appearances, makes a difference to me. I want this one badly.

But if these guys play their hearts out, and come away with a loss, I'm not going to feel badly about the season. This team has been a joy to watch. They've demonstrated a lot of character, and been exemplary of the Patriots Way. One of my favorite Pats teams ever.

I'm not ready to discuss that until their season ends. Only then can I look back.

While they can lose the Super Bowl, I'm not considering it at this time.

This team is 16-2 right now, and they did it without Gronk.. that is the measure of a successful season...

I think they will win the Superbowl, but if they do not just getting there is a major accomplishment in this so called "league of parity"...

IMO many are spoiled and fail to recognize how difficult this or any Super Bowl season really is..

I remember Superbowl XX and how this area went wild with success after years of mediocrity.. remember going to Green Airport after work to catch a glimpse of the team returning(I and a couple of thousand others would do that).. that is when I got my first Pats T-shirt, without an NFL logo.. "Squish the Fish"...

Never take anything for granted, these are truly extraordinary times..

When you accept 2nd best as a success you become the Indianapolis Colts.

I guess if, for some strange reason, I ended up in Sofia Vergara's bedroom, but she suddenly came to her senses and I just went home and jerked off, that would still be pretty good, so maybe i get the OP's point know.

That's basically it. Spoiled or no, we know what we have in Belichick and Brady and we know it won't last forever.

I think of it this way: the first two Patriots Super Bowl losses -- vs Bears and the Packers -- those years were considered successes. Those teams were surprises and the Parcells team especially had a bright future (which did play out if you think about it). But after winning those first three with B&B, then those two miserable losses that came so close to being repeated in Sb49 before Butler reminded us what winning it all felt like, winning the Super Bowl is the only result that truly satisfies.

Anything short of winning the SB would be underachieving for this team.
