Globe headline: Texans "nearly pulled off" upset

This is the Patriots standard. A game they were never trailing, was close at halftime but ultimately won by 18 is "almost an upset."

That game was close and could have turned on a few plays. They Pats could have easily lost that game.

No. Just no. All the Texans points came off of Pats mistakes, 13 came from turnovers and 3 came from a penalty extending the drive after the Pats stopped them on 3rd down

And if you are gonna play the "few plays" game then the Pats were a few plays away from winning 40-0

Maybe at the end of the half...

I didn't want to hit you with a "Disagree" (though I do disagree), because there is an element of truth in your post.

Even though my kids tell me that I am the most pessimistic "Homer" in the room on Game Day (which is the real reason why I usually stay out of the Game Day Thread...I'm afraid I might post something stupid and embarrass myself), I never thought they were in danger of losing this game, even when they were only up by one and also when they went three and out after the H2 KO.

I was confident that, eventually, "Brady would be Brady" and "Osweiler would be Osweiler."

So, I don't think they could have "easily lost that game," but I do think they were fortunate to be playing against a team without a Playoff Caliber QB (one great throw all game...and that was dropped...but three picks). If they were playing against a QB who played the way Matty Ice did yesterday, I think we might have been into nail biting in Q4.

So, it was a valuable wake-up call, especially for TB, who, even after all these years of excellence and morphing into the GOAT, still needs a kick in the butt to get on his game once in a while. It was also a kick in the butt for the players who made dumb mistakes (the penalty that gave the Texans life, blocking downfield, etc.) and for the coaches who let them come out without an "edge."

We're definitely spoiled. We won Super Bowl 38 by winning three playoff games by a combined 16 points. We beat Houston by 18 last night and it's time to panic.
Boston media sucks. it always has and that will never change. screw those hacks.

Screw Shankapotamus. Already owned his face on my MSN home page comment section. :D

They were a medicre QB away from having a shot in this game. They had no chance to pull it off with Brockweiler.

There were two points in the game where the Pats looked like they were going to run away, the Texas D held and delayed the blowout. That's the way I saw it.

Lol wut?
Fake news, but I guess if they didn't allow Lewis return TD, didn't throw 3 picks, and caught the ball instead of dropping in the end zone, yeah that's nearly

Yeh whatever...I do think the game "seemed" closer than the score but in saying that I never had any concern that the Pats would lose that game. I think what all these article are failing at is to identify the only points other than the first 3 points Houston scored were with an extremely short field due to the turnovers. Other than that when they got pinned back they couldn't score, shoot they couldn't score from the 50. Again...whatever.

But I do think they need to play a hell of a lot better next weekend.

^^ This

It's kinda funny, but I felt the same exact way. I was more annoyed watching the game last night, rather than being nervous. I never felt the game was in jeopardy, or even close..... but I was real annoyed (like screaming at the TV annoyed) on the sub-par play of the O.

I suppose if we were playing Denver, Balt, Pitts, etc.... I'd have been nervous as hell. But The Texans (much like the Colts lately)... Do not scare me and I was supremely confident that TFB and company would get their shizz together (at least for enough to put the game away) so that the "win" wasn't even contested.

So yeah..... A TON of stuff to fix for next week.. but "Close to pulling off the upset"....... Give me a break.

and yet in the Providence Journal:

"Patriots 34, Texans 16: Led by Dion Lewis, New England routs Houston"

Makes you wonder if they are commenting on the same game!
