Brissett works overtime to help Floyd prepare

I hope Amendola is teaching as well. Like him or not, I have never seen him run an incorrect route that pisses off the qb and he is an elite blocker.

I like this breakdown by Rich Hill.... the way the Pats approach practice reps -- not to mention managing Brady's health and injury situation -- - it looks as though activating Brissett was something they carefully thought out.

What has Patriots QB Jacoby Brissett been doing since re-joining the team?
  • Since Brissett was elevated to the active roster on December 21st, he has been an active participant in the weekly coaching strategy.
  • WR Danny Amendola and WR Malcolm Mitchell have been battling injuries, so the coaching staff has asked Brissett to bring waiver-wire claim WR Michael Floyd up to speed. Head coach Bill Belichick sees this as an opportunity for Brissett to show off his understanding of the playbook.
  • Brissett has also helped out in giving veteran QB Tom Brady a few days off to deal with a thigh injury. Brady did not practice on Wednesday and when he has taken the field over the past two weeks he has been limited. If Brissett were still on the injured reserve, back-up QB Jimmy Garoppolo would have had to take on all the practice reps and help with the scout team. Brissett has offered the coaching staff more freedom.
  • While his return might not have received much fanfare, Brissett will be a vital cog in the Patriots playoff preparation and could ultimately serve as Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger and Chiefs QB Alex Smith in practice. Brissett’s continued experience in practice should help him be a better quarterback in 2017 when he’s expected to be the top back-up option.

Another good call by Bill Belichick!

Michael Floyd is going to end up being a difference maker for our offense over the next 6 weeks...

He's playing for his career. He's dedicating himself and putting in the extra work and time.

I have a feeling he's going to be here for a long time.

Yea I hope we can get Floyd for a couple years

Been calling to land Floyd since last season.
No idea what his issues were in Arizona
Subpar QB play alcohol who knows.
But we got our Deandre Hopkins Vincent Jackson type of receiver and if he can get on the same page as Brady the NFL will cry.

Given the circumstances that got Floyd to the Pats, if the Pats like what they've seen, a one year prove it deal is almost a certainty.

We need to try for 3yrs atleast, he'll regain himself after one year and someone will overpay

Found this tid bit in Mike Reiss' interview with Jacoby.

Patriots rookie Jacoby Brissett returns home, showing how far he has come

“I know you probably want me to say Bill Parcells [smiling]. But he definitely is a tremendous help. He’s like the grandpa. He’s not like the father figure, but the granddad. Every time I go home, I go eat with him and talk to him. He’s kind of given me that advice that you need but you don’t want to hear.”

I find it really intriguing how close Brissett and Parcells are.... I never took the Big Tuna as a "mentoring," or "grand-fatherly" type lol

If I had to choose between Garappolo or Brisset, I'd have to choose JG!

I think most NFL experts would agree. I don't have a favorite because there's no basis for anyone to have a "favorite".

What baffles me is that some here seem to like one more than the other. Or are pulling for one over the other

There is no rationale for that, period. From a personal or football perspective

Okay, how? Does Brady retire and we turn the "Reigns" over to JG (couldn't resist pun with your name)? Does Brady stay on for another few years, and we pay JG like a starter, instead of letting him go somewhere and get a nice contract? I like both backups. I wish them success. I'm not really sure why you say "I don't have a favorite," and then toot the horn for JG. You're contradicting yourself with the rest of your post.

I said JG is the better choice right now. That's based on facts not opinion or favoritism

I only care about/favor Brady...for obvious reasons!

I dont want either Brisset or Garappolo to succeed more than the other because there's no basis for doing so

We have no emotional attachment to either Garapolo or Brisset

If he knows enough about the playbook to teach a teammate then he is certainly progressing.
I have written about this before about a pre season game in Philly during Edelman's rookie year ( the one where he returned a punt for a touchdown and BB asked Welker if he knew who Wally Pipp was). Edelman as a rookie was showing Joey Galloway where to line up...repeatedly. That told me Edelman got it and Galloway didn't and was cut soon after.

I like Brissett in spite of Parcells' involvement.

Looks like it paid off on that TD.
