OT: The Rex era might be ending a lot sooner than we thought

I live near Buffalo and personally I would give him one more year. But that said I can see them dropping the axe the owner sort of said playoff or bust in the spring. If they win out 9-7 is really only one game away from a playoff birth(thats a few bounces of the ball). Do you want to blow it all up or give it one more shot with a Vet QB. I would lean toward the latter.

The thing is that is telling is not beating any teams with a winning record.

I think Rex is a bad coach for lots of reasons, but the real question is, who are they going to be able to get that will be any better? And the owners gave him a five year contract. I wonder if they're willing to eat the last three years or it or not.

I mean from one extreme in terms of personalities to the other.

So Buffalo hosts the Dolphins on Saturday and the Bills are 3.5 point favorites.

I'm thinking the players will play for Rex in his last home game, since everyone thinks he is getting fired.

Maybe the Dolphins will already be eliminated this week, as I don't see this as a gimme at all.

Matt Moore is the QB and this isn't the Rats they are playing.

I admit. I'm a huge Tom Coughlin fan. The guy is a class-act and dissed John Mara. My kind of guy.

When Stinky Pete got wacked in 1999 I wanted Coughlin in Foxboro in the worst way.

The fact is Tom is 70. If the Bills had any brains, they'd make Tom President of Football Ops and have him run the place and bring in a coach and GM that he can mentor and work 900 hours a week.

So hopefully they don't do this. I agree, it'd be a great move.

There are several head coaches who could be out of a job after this season. John Fox (Bears), Todd Bowles (Jets), Chip Kelly (49ers), maybe even Marvin Lewis (Bengals). Bills could find a new HC from among those guys. Rex will still be a popular choice as a defensive coordinator, if he wants to.
The Bills should go with Lewis; it's a match made in heaven. A team that hasn't won a playoff game in 21 years picking a guy who hasn't won a playoff game in 14 years as a head coach.

ReCowboy that is horrible.

Alot of variables make a good Football team one which includes a Good QB until the Bills or Jets get one then I would worry.

And not just any penalties. PIs, holding, offsides could be charged up to smart aggressive play. But Rex's teams get a lot of PF, unsportsman penalties, particularly in tight situations where those penalties were often backbreakers. Even with the Ravens when he was DC and they had great defenses, I never worried in close games because I was confident that the Ravens D would commit a boneheaded PF at just the right time to do themselves in.

Edit: [forgot my last thought] His Ds were often good against middling to poor teams but lost their heads and discipline in tight situations against good teams. And, of course, as a head coach he's treated his offenses as forgotten step children.
It's incorrect to say he was DC of great defenses in Baltimore.

I always thought they should have hired Schwartz over Ryan he had that defense playing lights out a few years back and the players loved him. He actually did a decent job in Philly this year as well.

Schwartz like Ryan excellent DC's horrible HC Coaches.

Yea as DC of BAL his Ds finished 10th, 1st, 22nd, 3rd in PA.

Very respectable but not prolonged greatness.

So, in response to OP title: maybe not.
