Pats claim WR Michael Floyd

Kid certainly makes history now:

“Floyd Move“ - a course of action in which a talented player exchanges a non-playoff team for a playoff team towards the end of the regular season by making sure he is charged for DUI. (parking ones car at the intersection and falling asleep drunk on the drivers seat proved to be among most successful methods)
I think Blount did it better leaving the Steelers

Hopefully it works as successfully as the Blount's blount move.

I think the NFL ****ed up by giving us such a weapon. I don't care if he learns the offense, he still will stretch the field for guys like 11, 28 and 33 to feed. Julian, James and Dion. Hogan, Mitchell and Floyd are plenty for any defense.

A few thoughts

1. I think having the division and bye locked up by game 16 will allow BB and Brady to create a gameplan to see what Floyd can do in this offense with a lot of different formations and targets. It's the perfect opportunity to throw a new guy out there with no downside to the cost to the team or record. It also gives them a base to work off of going in to the bye before the first round. It doesnt mean he will be an all encompassing answer, but you don't get any opportunities to use a game like a preseason training situation very often, but the Pats have given themselves that opportunity.

2. There has been a lot of talk on the draft board about the type of receiver that will be of interest in this draft. One player that is interesting given this context is Evan Engram, the move TE from Ole Miss. On paper, they are incredibly similar physically, and points to an idea many on the draft board have had, that the team will need to focus some assets toward a big body receiver for over the middle.

3. Too much is being made about Floyds catch rate. He is an inside slant guy being used outside on deep go's. You have to consider the team and other options they have on that team. Fitz is now a slot guy, brown is as well, David Johnson is handling the bubble and flat and they have slow footed TEs that can't stretch the field. It's not Floyds fault that the team wasn't constructed to take advantage of his skillset. Here, he is more battling Amendola, where he should be able to take advantage of his size and quickness advantage. Think Marques Colston instead of Randy Moss.

4. I will have higher hopes than most, but I don't think this is a short term relationship. The team will need some significant addition of talent in the receiving game going forward, and you just don't find players like this on the street. With Gronks health up in the air, Edelman and Dola a step slower, having someone like this fall in to your lap without having to spend any resources could be a huge deal. To think that BB and Caserio remade their receiving core in one season (hogan, Mitchell, Bennett, Floyd) and all it cost was a 4th and 5th is truly amazing.

5. Even if he never takes off a receiver, his blocking is legit. wouldn't surprise me at all if he was picked up for that alone, given how much BB holds that skill above many other at the position. We may not be able to go to 12 formation with Gronk hurt, but having a big body that can really stonewall a safety definitely lessens the blow.

6. I probably care more about chemistry than anyone, but the chances a guy on waivers is what tears everything down is pretty silly. We had branch and Blount have negative off field situations, and Van Noy to a lesser extent, and all came in, were embraced, and flourished. There are obviously times that isn't the case, but a tight locker room doesn't often get broken by a single player, as much as a player is accepted and put in a situation to redeem himself. Just have to hope for the best, and count on the incredible leadership team we have.

Is Flody how he signs his name when hes had a drinkie poo

Hope not. It should be made clear from the start we don't need him here and that if he expects any special treatment or steps out of line we can easily say good bye.

Or maybe Floyd has found a new home.

Further proof that Myra Kraft took this organization's moral compass with her when she died. What's worse, is that the majority of the people here have absolutely no issue with it. When exactly did we turn into Baltimore/Pittsburgh fans?

The kid is obviously a moron. Many WRs smarter than him have come here and failed to grasp this needlessly complex offensive and gel with a crotchety old QB who insists on jamming the ball into one or two guys, regardless of how many defenders are on them while ignoring the new guy(s) no matter how open they are. But this guy is going become a significant contributor to this offense in three games? We sold our integrity for Chad Johnson 2.0 and a relatively useless compensatory pick. Disgusting. This team gets more unlikeable by the day.

Hopefully the next time this scumbag gets drunk and goes for a drive it's not your loved one he cripples or kills. At least now it's possibility due to proximity and you people are happy about it. Uneal.

I like the move, but I just hope this doesn't mean Amendola to IR.
My thoughts too.
Hate to see DA done but, if that is the case, I'm optimistic on Floyd as someone who can contribute something.

First off its not like he touched a kid or hit a woman thats a scum bag.
Second we got to give everybody a chance alcoholism is a real disease and its crazy how many talented players have had the same addiction rerail a career.
Second Andre Branch is not a scum bag Donte Stallworth wasnt a scumbag.
Its people making a mistake.
Id much rather have BB and co save this kid and his career and watch him perform and be a difference maker.
BB visits addicts in jail and writes letters to inmates.
I highly doubt BB thinks this guy is a scumbag for being addicted to a drink that im sure 90 percent of this board enjoys.

I don't think this is the case. I think the swap done today either for Floyd or Hester was a no brainer.

Wow!

53 posts into your posting here and you produce this.

Are you sure you are in the right forum? This one is for Pats fans.

Charlie Weiss is so far removed from what the Patriots now do on offense that I cannot believe when people continue to mention any relation to him as being some advantage. The time when Charlie Weiss flamed out at Notre Dame to boot.

The problem is that it was a mistake that could have cost somebody there life and that is unforgivable. A very selfish and inconsiderate decision. He is fortunate that he is not doing any jail time. Drink drivers are very very dangerous to public safety.

Him being addicted to it is HIS problem. Nobody held a gun to his head and said drink it. Alcohol is poison and should be avoided at all costs. I have seen it destroy families and that is why I never have and never will drink it. Damaging your body and paying for it at the same time lol how intelligent, not to mention how vulnerable you are when you are drunk. I hate this signing. We had big vince leave pulling people from car wrecks and now we got this punk passed out drunk on the intersection with the engine running being a huge threat to public safety... absolute madness. The cops should gave got him out of the car and beat his ass for being an ass or I hope they did.

Of all the things to be outraged about in and around the NFL, this seems like a weird place to draw the line in the sand. I'm not cool with DUIs either, and I'm glad he'll be suspended and face some real repercussions for it. I hope he loses his driver's license for a very long time. But I don't see why it needs to go beyond that.

The offenses aren't similar, but the terminology is. If nothing else, someone who played under Weis should have an in-depth understanding of Erhardt-Perkins terminology. Doesn't make him plug and play by a long shot, he still has to basically learn the offense, but at least knowing the language you're supposed to be speaking is a good start.

Love this move. I believe this guy will be motivated. Funny how some are acting like he is some scrub lol, he's been relatively productive save for a few hickups.

All aside I wouldn't be surprised if BB turns him into Demaryius Thomas ..
