Pats claim WR Michael Floyd

hopefully better than his brother, Brandon

I am still shock that other teams didn't put a claim. Team's like the giants or even the steelers. Giants offense has been struggling

Well, no one heading into the playoffs would bother - why throw away 1.4m when you could be developing young talent?

I am surprised that some of the playoff teams passed. Glad, too.

Floyd is more of an intermediate threat along to lines of David Givens. And I think that's a good thing..
He can take the top off too. But yes, intermediate routes are where Floyd does most of his damage. Love this move. There is literally no risk and the team just added talented, experienced depth at the position for a relative bargain.

Some Comments on the Comments

1. Its been a long time since I've read a 11 page thread from the start.

2. In its simplest terms the Pats were willing to pay $1.3MM to upgrade Griff Whalen for 3 games and into the playoffs.

3. Floyd's problems are probably real and this will be his final chance to resolve them. Good to see that Larry Fitz likes him. So he's probably a good guy with a problem, so that makes it easier to fix.

4. The fact he played for Charlie might make the transition a bit easier, but just a bit. The reality is going to be that HIS playbook is going to be different than the rest of the WR's. Most likely he'll just run the route that's called and not have to make any site adjustments

5. I was trying to figure out how he got through to us on waivers. The only thing I could think of was that no one wanted pay the $1.4MM for the last 3 games, and everyone thought they'd have a shot at him in FA for cheap. And then the Pats swoop in at the last minute, because they are SOOOOOOO good a cap management and grab him. I GUARANTEE you that more than a few playoff contenders had Floyd's agent on speed dial if he cleared waivers.

6. The DUI thing is real. It will be amusing to see how fast Goodell moves on this. Clearly it seems it normally takes a few months for this to work itself out. But normally doesn't describe the Pats relationship with the league.

7. I think the roster moves will be as follows. Obviously Griff is gone, and we will need to make another roster move when JB is reactivated in a week or so. Well rather than risk anyone off the roster. I think when we have to activate JB, we move him back to the IR. He will have gotten the advantage of a few more weeks with the team, but he's the safest roster move

8 for the Pats Floyd is badly needed depth. More size in the Red Zone, and more speed on the outside. And like I said early in this post, he's a LOT better than Griff Whalen.

Instances where a player got in trouble late into the season and got suspended immediately? Have we seen it? I expect ****dell to move in quickly.

This is the type of player that will lessen the handicap of not having gronk against man coverage. He has the capability to high point and dominate cbs one on one. We were pretty much down to Bennett in that area. Not only a good pickup as far as pure talent, but a huge step in getting back to a very eclectic offense.

Assuming 4+ weeks until our first playoff game, he will be ready to contribute.

Before you get on thathigh horse, I hope you understand that you just described 3/4's of the exiting Monday night crowd.
There's quite a difference between Having some beer during a Football game to what he did:

"officers found Floyd "unconscious behind the wheel of his running vehicle at the intersection of Camelback Road and Goldwater Blvd" at 2:48 a.m. Monday morning." (Cardinals WR Michael Floyd arrested on DUI charges)

What about a suspension for the DUI?

I think you have to be convicted first. Despite police reports. I would hope that's the case, not for our benefit, but for the benefit of "innocent until proven guilty".

He can take the top off too. But yes, intermediate routes are where Floyd does most of his damage. Love this move. There is literally no risk and the team just added talented, experienced depth at the position for a relative bargain.

I just hope he doesn't look like ocho cinco.

Even if Goodell swoops in, it's a win for BB. He gets to see some of Floyd, to figure out if the kid's worth pursuing in FA.

Any games he's suspended don't take money from the cap.

I'm still trying to figure out any downside to this...nope, not seeing any...

Upside? I don't know, but it could be seriously awesome. And I'd love for Hogan to get a couple of weeks to rest that back, or Edelman to get a couple of weeks off that foot.

Fking love this move, as long as he is catching touchdowns here.

According to the cards boards he's had a case of the drops and a propensity for throwing up on the sideline, presumably hungover .

Of course, once a player is officially gone from a team, for any reason other than retirement, fans like to overemphasize the negatives. One of my personal favorite things to do as a matter of fact. In my recollection welker had a 100% drop rate in the postseason here being that I only remember one particular pass and he dropped it.

For what it's worth. The cards boards have been all over Floyd the whole season. They wanted him traded out of Arizona and pointed to the Pats sending Collins away.

Well the last Cardinals 1st rounder that the Pats tried to salvage didn't work, maybe this time the results will be better.

He beat Sherman quite a bit

I actually think he could play a David Givens role if they can get him right for the stretch. He's not a burner but he's physical, I just don't know if that translates to blocking.

Patriots to pay Michael Floyd $1.3 million for final three weeks of the regular season.

LeGarrette Blount is making $1 million all year.

I bet Blount, Hogan, Mitchell and Edelman are already working on the welcome party ..

I like the move, but I just hope this doesn't mean Amendola to IR.

I'm guessing (and it's just an uneducated guess) that Amendola will be fine for the playoffs and that this means the end for Lengel (at least for now - stash him on the PS).

Go with 1 TE - Martysaurus. We have Fleming/Develin/etc. to play the blocking TE position.

Floyd is really a big body Gronk replacement in the Red Zone.

Amendola isn't in that equation.

At the beginning of the season, we had 2 TE's and 4 WR's. Now we have 1TE+ 5 WR's, and this one is a big guy.
