Pats claim WR Michael Floyd

Down Gronk. Amendola out with a bad ankle till the playoffs and seems like it is still a question on if he will be back.

No clue why anyone would be against a 6' 3" WR who has shown he can play in this league. I mean of course you can have Griff Whalen instead. Me, i'll take Floyd
More than anything, I'm surprised the Patriots' claim was successful. I honestly believed despite the problems, his talent meant someone would take a punt. All he needs to do is marginally contribute and the claim will pay dividends.

Belichick is the master of the risk vs. reward move.

Patriots to pay Michael Floyd $1.3 million for final three weeks of the regular season.

LeGarrette Blount is making $1 million all year.

Rich Hill deleted it because Miguel corrected him

Being a Notre Dame fan, I've seen a lot of Floyd... He's extremely dangerous in the red zone. He's big, strong and has good leaping ability, plus high points the ball well. His hands are also very good.

He used to he really good with the ball in his hands, but his quickness has definitely diminished over the past few seasons. Still a threat to break a tackle, but he doesn't weave in and out of traffic like he used to.

He's a really good blocker for a WR.

He's certainly not a speed guy, though, but I'm pretty certain they grabbed him as a red zone target.

Blount will be back with this team. I think we will give him a nice deal.

I don't know if it has diminished. He's 27. He hasn't taken big hits. He has been dealing with a hamstring injury. He's a long strider. We need another physical presence

A kind of jump ball WR is what I saw over the past years.. limited talent IMO like Jeffery and Benjamin. I always ridiculed others that took him in fantasy and really have no high expectations that he is anything other than a backup these remaining games. He is a bit one-dimensional because I can only remember him being stuck to that left sideline.. maybe he will be more decoy. As others say, Redzone target WR could be handy.

Can he play TE.. I liked what someone else said.. play that Hernandez role. I'm sure one of his best traits is his downfield blocking.

Overall no brainer move due to depth, but the guy has not been as good as expected. A new house maybe will bring it out of him.

This move confirms for me that we would have been in for Josh Gordon had he been available.

Incredible that 30 other teams had no interest- including playoff teams that could use some help at WR.

....and there is BB and now has the other 30 asking what they missed?

I was on board with this move, but figured we'd never have a chance. Very very excited! He's well loved by the teammates in Arizona, and I hope that he can get his head on straight and help us win a championship. One of my all time draft binkies, finally in NE. Nice!

OT: Cards release Michael Floyd

Who was higher on the waiver order. Pats or Cowgirls?

He had over 800 plus yards last season in an offense that has guys like fitzgerald and john brown.

Let's not whistle past the graveyard here. The team is dangerously thin with healthy bodies at receiver. It's entirely possible this move was viewed inside as an upgrade over Griff Whalen and that's all.

Agreed. Part of it is that Arizona hasn't really used him that way. Lot of fades. At the very least his blocking ability makes the running game that much more explosive and he's great blocking on those bubble screens that Hogan can never seem to block successfully.

Some Comments on the Comments

1. Its been a long time since I've read a 11 page thread from the start.

2. In its simplest terms the Pats were willing to pay $1.3MM to upgrade Griff Whalen for 3 games and into the playoffs.

3. Floyd's problems are probably real and this will be his final chance to resolve them. Good to see that Larry Fitz likes him. So he's probably a good guy with a problem, so that makes it easier to fix.

4. The fact he played for Charlie might make the transition a bit easier, but just a bit. The reality is going to be that HIS playbook is going to be different than the rest of the WR's. Most likely he'll just run the route that's called and not have to make any site adjustments

5. I was trying to figure out how he got through to us on waivers. The only thing I could think of was that no one wanted pay the $1.4MM for the last 3 games, and everyone thought they'd have a shot at him in FA for cheap. And then the Pats swoop in at the last minute, because they are SOOOOOOO good a cap management and grab him. I GUARANTEE you that more than a few playoff contenders had Floyd's agent on speed dial if he cleared waivers.

6. The DUI thing is real. It will be amusing to see how fast Goodell moves on this. Clearly it seems it normally takes a few months for this to work itself out. But normally doesn't describe the Pats relationship with the league.

7. I think the roster moves will be as follows. Obviously Griff is gone, and we will need to make another roster move when JB is reactivated in a week or so. Well rather than risk anyone off the roster. I think when we have to activate JB, we move him back to the IR. He will have gotten the advantage of a few more weeks with the team, but he's the safest roster move

8 for the Pats Floyd is badly needed depth. More size in the Red Zone, and more speed on the outside. And like I said early in this post, he's a LOT better than Griff Whalen.
