Week 14 NFL Playoff Picture: Pats, Seahawks, Cowboys Can Clinch Division Titles

John Morgan

It is December and we are now in the fourth quarter of the 2016 NFL regular season. That means it is now late enough in the year that we can talk about playoff races.

Week 14 after-math:

NE could well be the only 2015 semi-finalist to make the 2016 playoffs.

With the conclusion of the early Sunday games the playoff standings are temporarily altered.

AFC:
  1. 10-2 Patriots
  2. 10-3 Chiefs
  3. 8-5 Steelers
  4. 7-6 Texans
  5. 10-3 Raiders
  6. 8-5 Broncos
  7. 8-5 Dolphins
  8. 7-5 Ravens
  9. 7-6 Titans
  10. 6-7 Colts
  11. 6-7 Bills
As of this moment Denver would be at Pittsburgh and Oakland at Houston in the wild card round.
Miami, Baltimore, Houston, Indy, Buffalo and the rest would not make the playoffs.

NFC:
  1. 11-1 Cowboys
  2. 8-3-1 Seahawks
  3. 9-4 Lions
  4. 7-5 Falcons
  5. 8-4 Giants
  6. 7-5 Buccaneers
  7. 7-5-1 Redskins
  8. 7-6 Vikings
  9. 6-6 Packers
  10. 5-7-1 Cardinals
  11. 5-7 Saints
  12. 5-8 Panthers
  13. 5-8 Eagles

Right now it would be Tampa Bay at Detroit and Giants at Falcons in the wild card.
Today's Seattle-Green Bay game will have a big impact; if the Packers win then Detroit becomes #2.
Washington needs the Bucs to lose to the Saints.

In terms of who controls their own destiny - i.e., what happens if a team wins all of the rest of their games - here is the least that each team would finish in their conference standings.

AFC:
  1. Patriots
  2. Chiefs
  3. Steelers/Ravens
  4. Texans/Titans
  5. Raiders
  6. Broncos

Steelers/Ravens and Texans/Titans both control their own destiny for the same spot since they play each other again later this season.

NFC:
  1. Cowboys
  2. Seahawks
  3. Lions
  4. Falcons
  5. Giants
  6. Bucs
