2016 COMBINED: Pats Roster Transactions

I remember reading on a Colts messageboard, a couple of years ago, that some Colts fans thought that Whalen would be a perfect fit for the Pats.

And of course, in addition to PR experience he can also play QB in a pinch.

For some reason when I glanced at his name I read it as "Whiff".

China is going to to kidnap BB when the NYJFL* force teams to play in China.

I bet they would treat him well. I've been to China a few times and have seen some Flying Elvis t-shirts....

At least we are spared another Jones punt return.

That fills the coveted fake punt specialist position.

Guess we can all take Keshawn Martin off the shadow roster list. Interesting that they went with Whalen over Lucien/White. I guess they are looking for a very specific skillset.
PR would be my guess.

I heard that but not 100% I believe that was THE issue. He is playing a ton in CHI. I don't think he leaves the field.

I had heard that the Pats offered a 3 year deal which was around $3.5m per season and a bonus south of what he got from CHI.

He impressed the hell out of me here. With that said, to BBs credit he found Valentine who might be next year's Hicks.

There were multiple reports that Belichick wanted Hicks back but Hicks deemed a better opportunity. Presumably, that's some combination of cash and playing time to establish a market for a bigger contract in 2 years.

At the time he signed in Chicago, the Pats had Brown and Easley as two kids who were likely going to get plenty of reps to develop and Branch whose skill set is a little different and was always going to get a good number of snaps because of it.

Had the Pats dumped Easley sooner, I bet Hicks would have re-signed.

Yea thats my thinking as well...

Interesting the team elected to keep Hamilton who has been hurt over Kilgone.

Not particularly. Hamilton hasn't been on the Injury Report since week 8. Hamilton has been with the team since TC, was on the PS and earned his way onto the team.. Pretty obvious that Kilgo was the one on the outside.

I actually like the Whalen signing. He's not necessarily a "special" player but I think he can be what Austin Collie was for this team a couple years back. He seems to have decent size and strength and his PR skills appear quite good...

I put him on my PS list yesterday to save some time ..
