Sounds a bit scary...

That wasn’t compartment syndrome, but it just a very big blood clot in my leg, which turned into a hole — a big, cavernous, three-inch hole in my leg. And they had to pack it. Every day, they had to pack it with gauze, and I had to wear this thing over it, and I had to take antibiotics, and I still have a blood clot in my leg right now. So I hope that it doesn’t travel.

Rob Ninkovich Reveals He Has Played With Blood Clot In Leg Since Last Season

Were the antibiotics the substance that caused him to fail the drug test? Interesting.

Love Nink but this definitely provides some potential reasoning why he hasn't played as well this year.

I'm guessing no because licenced doctors can get a waiver from the League to administer banned substances for treatment of legitimate health problems.

Good point. Maybe he took additional meds to help him on the side? Seems too coincidental that he has this issue and all of a sudden he ends up on the PED violation list.

I also wouldn't be surprised if he took HGH after he ****ed up his bicep. If I'm a guy at the tail end of my career who is going to possibly miss 4-6 games I'm thinking why not gamble with a suspension risk. Worst case scenario you're gone for the number of games you were probably gonna miss anyways, best case you've cut your healing time down by a game or two.

I have a family member who suffered the same thing wouldn't surprise me if Niko is IRed. A rigorous sport like Football won't help matters he will probably be told to retire. There is more to life than Football. My Family member had Clots similar to the ones Chris Bosh suffered the clots started in the Leg.

That's an odd medical condition for a young man to have.

So that's why Ninko has sucked ass this year.

Now what's everybody else's excuse?

Well, hate to say it, but a side effect of HGH are blood clots...

Given that the clot is still there, we fans need to resign ourselves to the fact that Ninko might suddenly have to miss games (or the rest of the season) with no warning.

Hope he continues to progress from it. I think it can explain why he's had his struggles as of late. It can't be easy playing with that.

My grand dad had a clot in his leg and they had to amputate his leg.

The clot is not a DVT like Bosh - it is a hematoma from trauma that got infected - can take a long time to resolve. He does not need blood thinners like Bosh, and thus can play. It is not in the veins and will not go to his lungs.

Very useful information.

I had an auxillary subclavian thrombosis years ago...clots aren't anything to play with. I'm surprised that they're okay with him to play with. It must not be as serious as mine was because I was in the ICU for 3 weeks.
