It's a conditional pick for a third round compensatory pick. Here's the condition: If the Browns get a third round compensatory pick, the Pats get it. If they don't, they get the Browns fourth round pick.
If it's the fourth, it will revert back to the NFL for Deflategate, no? Not sure if the highest pick in teh round (like the first) or our dedicated 4th.

WTF!!! He's one of our best players. Hightower can't stay healthy for a whole season.
Bombshell.

*Any relevance to 12-men-on-the-field--twice--yesterday?

The look on Patricia & Belichick's faces said it all.

Beyond that, I vote this one goes in the Glenn, Milloy, Moss, Mankins category of outcome.

And, NOT the Vinatieri, Branch, Seymour, Talib category.

Thank you.

Wanted too much money and was underperforming. What's not to get?

What's not to get? Even with what you just said is the team REALLY better off right now than having him for the rest of the season and letting him walk afterwards?

I would think not

FreeTed - AdamJT13 posted his Comp Pick page earlier. Please go and read it. There are offsets based on the number of Free Agents before there are off-sets for salary.. If the Pats signed 4 players at 2M+, and lost 4 players at 8M+, they aren't likely to get a comp pick..

I know the formula, and how it works. Both Collins and Jones will get 10+ mil a year contracts in free agency. The Pats will sign and lose guys in the 2-5 mil a year range. Right now the Pats have 22 players set to hit free agency (21 now without Collins). I think we can all agree that with Hightower and Butler (if they both don't get traded in the next 24 hours for a bag of magic beans) having to get resigned. There is no way the Pats go out and spend another 10+ mil a year on a Free Agent. I'm confident that any FA signings will be off set by any one of the 21 Pats players signing someplace else. In fact, if you look at the Pats history, they know when they are in line for comp picks and purposely don't go out and spend big in FA.

So yes, I can confidently say, if the Pats had kept both Collins and Chandler Jones, they would have received two third round comp picks in return for them.
