Florio: Early Season Ratings Decline Continues for NFL

A large part of the nfls popularity is fantasy football and gambling. The prime time games are terrible

I find the increasing and endless commercials more irritating. They have made them so long and intrusive that I can switch channels between plays and follow an alternative program with no loss.

We've focused grouped the &^%$ out of this with focus groups made up of the same sycophants we studied the deflategate fiasco with. Unsurprisingly they told us exactly what we wanted to hear. Apparently, our attempts to foster a culture of #integrity, in which that word means butt-shark yes-men surrounding us each and every minute of every day has been outrageously successful.

Fair enough. I haven't really paid attention to it much before last year, and really this year. Last year, I was just watching games overseas...the "extracurriculars" off the field are kinda unknown to me. For example, it was news to me that Penn State got a reduction in sanctions. I was a 100% NFL guy until defamegate left me open to the idea of college when I was overseas and everyone was watching Alabama.
I watched the FSU/Miami last night. Sure seemed like a better product than the NFL. The play was better than the vast majority of NFL teams, the reffing was much better, and the game felt far less chopped up by commercials.

Looked like a good game from the highlights. I was watching Alabama and Arkansas, and there was one bad call, but it wasn't the cavalcade you get watching the NFL. And Alabama's defense is something to behold.

Honestly I tune in at 1 and 4 religiously. But lately the Thurs/Sun/Mon night product has been absolute crap. Matchups not intriguing plus I am gambling less. Sometimes the only way I can watch is if I throw some $ on it. I did watch gb vs ny cause I needed Randall Cobb to get 12 pts to win my FF but after he did that I actually shut it off LOL.

#BlameGoodell
I'm sure Kraft would be more than happy to expound on the many virtues of Rodger Goodell and explain to you what a great job he is doing and how none of this can possibly be his fault. He'll probably offer you a hug afterwards, though, so everything will be fine.

Nice! That's worse than the one that went head to head with the debate last week, isn't it?

That was MNF I believe, but these aren't any better.

The Week 3 Falcons/Saints Monday Night Football game earned a 5.7 overnight rating, down 36% from Chiefs/Packers last year (8.9), down 38% from Bears/Jets in 2014 (9.2) and the lowest for any NFL telecast through the first three weeks of the season. Ratings peaked at a 6.9 from 8:45-9 PM ET, the final quarter-hour before the debate started.

I am part of the group that did not watch. I watched the Red Sox-Indians game , but now that the Sox are eliminated, I am done with baseball.

I see comments from people who are boycotting the NFL* pointing out the sports they are paying attention to instead of the NFL*.

I question why anyone needs to substitute another sport to fill the void. Find something else to do than watching sports. A lot of the complaints about the NFL*, like excessive commercials, apply to the other professional sports too.

excellent news!! i hope the ratings continue to tank

but we'll be on national tv quite a bit over the next couple of weeks so the ratings will increase
