I used to watch two to three NFL non Pats games per week... for the past twenty years. Because I was so soured by deflategate, I only watched 4 or 5 non Pats games last year and the games I did watch were only so that I wouldn't be non social. That was deliberate. This year, I really have no interest in non Pats games. I watched the second half of the opener between Denver and Carolina and have only watched maybe a total of ten minutes of other games. That's not because I'm trying to make a point like last season, I just don't care about other teams and the overall league anymore. That's not going to change until Goodell is gone and the integrity of the sport has returned.
The owners will still be in charge. There's no reason to suspect they'll hire someone with any integrity next time around.

It's a ****tail of reasons, really, if you look around at what fans across the country are saying.

- The national anthem thing; it's a real issue, but not the only one. It seems to me that the anthem thing is a case of the straw breaking the camels back. I'm a vet (which seems to be the thing to say), so I have my own opinions on respecting the flag. They can disrespect it if they like, but they can't expect to be free from consequence...except jail and civil fines, etc.

- Flags...flags...flags; in the gameday chat a few years back, we coined a term "flag****ed" to represent those times when strange or bad calls screwed us over. I think the league flag****ed themselves.

- Rules that take away from the game; that includes celebrations, taunting, but also the various infractions for different kinds of hits and ticky tack contact down the field. You see the referees on screen more than the head coaches these days. And all the new and ever-changing rule sets have confused referees to the point that they don't even know how to call a good game anymore. We're at the point that we judge a ref by his ability to say "**** this", stick the whistle in his pocket and let the men play football.

- Deflategate, Punch-the-fiance-and-drag-her-by-the-hairgate, Bountygate, Bullygate, Spygate, Whatevergate; if it isn't on the field news, then it's probably about a scandal, typically bolstered by unnecessary and gratuitous coverage from BSPN. Deflategate isn't quite seen as the witch hunt around the country the way it is in New England, but most fans I talk to recognize that the NFL ****ed the pooch on this one and screwed Brady over. The curtain finally got pulled back. Sure, Herr Goodell got his man, but it was a Pyrrhic victory at best.

- The CBA killed the volume of full-contact practices; ostensibly, this was supposed to be a safety measure, but injuries haven't gone down. And while I don't have empirical data in front of me, the eyeball test tells me that injuries to stars are probably going up. The bigger issue is that the NFL is no longer putting out a quality product. Missed tackles, blown coverages, and poor techniques really lower the quality of the games. Players need more practice.

- Commericals...kickoff...commercials; Sunday was once about football, interrupted by ads. Now it's an ad package interrupted by football. Starting a few years back, I'd DVR the games and then start watching about an hour later, while preparing snacks/meals for the game. Generally speaking, I'd catch up to the broadcast around the mid-point of the fourth quarter. It makes life much better, but it says a lot that about 40% of game you're watching is actually advertisements. It's certainly a higher percentage than what you see on a sitcom, which has about 27% percent of a broadcast tied up in ads.

I'm with the others here. Defamegate was the straw that broke this camel's back. Last year, I watched a few non-Pats games as I was overseas and with a group of dudes, so we watched what was available. This year...I've watched about 20-30 minutes of non-Pats stuff, and mostly as background noise. I don't watch pregame, postgame, or even halftime reports anymore. And I used to be a guy who was up at 9am with pregame stuff on in the background, and was up until late on Sunday taking in the banter, especially if we won that day.

This is starting to feel like my divorce from baseball during the 1990s.

They can't do any worse and Tagliabue was pretty good. The NBA and MLB have decent guys.

I haven't consciously divorced myself from baseball yet, but no longer living in the area I see less games and don't go out of my way looking for them. The Red Sox get a lot of nationally televised games though so I got to see them on occasion this year.

I was watching their playoff game vs Cleveland last nignt, and while I wanted them to win, I was getting annoyed with the commercials, and my mind even wandered to how it wouldn't be so bad if they lost, since that would give me back some time to do other things.

I was definately ready for the game to end yesterday, and I never felt that way watching them when I was growing up.

I disagree. They are certainly free to express their views when off the field, out of uniform and off the facility. However, come game day, they are employees of their team and, by extension, the NFL. Their actions are negatively impacting the public perception of the NFL and also the profitability of the team. In any other business they'd have been told to standup respectfully or be fired. The NFL should do the same, and so should the team owners.

I think it's not constructive the way they're going about their protest and wish they would stop, but if you use force to silence them then it's a catch 22 in a way because you're saying they're disrespecting the flag that represents the freedoms in this country and because some people don't like it, they should be forced to stand or face the consequences of losing their livelihood.. which means they aren't really "free" to protest and stand up for what they believe in

I wish they would stand up and go about making their protest in another fashion, but I don't think they should lose their job over it

No one who was a fan of the NFL believes anything that comes out of 354 Park Ave these days, and that isn't just in NE. That is almost universally the theme around the country, even from fans they hate the Pats. I too have gone from someone who couldn't wait for the first pregame show to go on the air, to someone who ONLY watches when the Pats are on, and couldn't care less what is happening in the rest of the league.

At the end of the day, I can go to the internet and check the scores at any of a hundred sites, and that's it. That's all they get from me, and all they ever will.....

I lurk on a few message boards of other teams and all of them hate Roger and dont trust the league, regardless of their personal feelings on deflategate... but the Colts board members post all the time that they think Goodell is doing a great job lol

The nature of pro sports and the way players are acquired makes it difficult to treat misbehaving players as they might be in another employment area.

They possess rare skills and it isn't that easy to "fire" a player and replace him with another player of equal ability.

In light of that reality, it seems a lot of fans are choosing to "fire" the entire NFL* instead, and stop tuning in.

Goodell will hand the trophy to the winning Owner and Coach, as the Commissioner always does.

Brady and Belichick will be polite if the Pats win the SB. Remember, the only thing that people hate more than a sore loser is a bad winner. A cool, clipped "Thank you" will be far more effective than a snub.

THE FLAGS HAVE TO STOP OMG seriously every 2-3 plays flag flag flag back then it was rare to see a flag back when they played straight football less ads and all the extra bullcrap just football both sides dugging it out no interruptions

I believe that if Roger avoids handing the trophy, it would be an even bigger story that would dominate the media for a while. I think it's worse for him if he doesn't hand it out. Of course we have to win it first.

I would like to believe this, but, if this scenario played out, I don't have any faith in the media to pursue this story.

We've seen what is essentially a refusal from the "big guns" in the media to hold the league accountable for their conduct towards the Patriots since January 2015. For example, no one disputes that the "11 of 12 balls" story was false, but no one has called attention to the fact that this story came from the NFL. You would think that a league leaking a false report and creating a distraction for one of the participants in their championship game would be a big story, but everyone has stayed clear of that.

So, if Goodell creates a new policy and has someone like Roger Staubach hand the SB trophy to (God willing) the Patriots, I think we're more likely to see Peter King write about what a great idea that is, rather than asking why Goodell is avoiding doing it.

When Brady returns, so will the ratings.
I hope not. The only thing the owners understand is the language of money. Lower ratings means lower ad rates and less revenue.. Then maybe they will come to realize how their fair haired boy is trying to kill the golden goose and maybe then, his reign of terror will com to an end.

I have Sunday ticket, but outside of the Patriots I haven't been following many games. Other teams bore me, I use to watch the red zone channel when the pats were not playing last year, but this year I am a bit disappointed with the whole league.

Maybe because I'm getting older or maybe because the league blows without Brady.

With Brady back, I will watch Pats games and that's it for the NFL, just like I have for the first 4 games of the season.

Not watching, not buying NFL licensed merch, and not buying the products of companies advertised during games are the ONLY ways to really hit the NFL. Make them feel the impact. I honestly don't care if the NFL folds once Brady is retired. F*** them.

Wouldn't surprise me if herr goddell started a new tradition of having one of the h o f new members give the trophy to the winners if the pats get to the Super Bowl....

Goodell's motivations in all this are totally dishonest, but neither his pretend motivations nor his true ones are personal.

Roger better be eating a camel's funky ***

Don't worry, GoToHell will do his very best to prevent the Pats from getting to the SB. Concussion protocol, "missed calls, fabricated rule breaking....... You know Integrity and such

They will for New England area. I tuned out tonight for the first time since TNF began. This past Sunday the TV was only on for the Pats game, and not on all day regardless of Pats kick-off. Between spygate, deflategate, and now this unnecessary injection of liberal identity politics...when TB12 is done, so am I.

Lol. What a principled stand. Leave now you are an embarassment to the fanbase.

OTOH... I know today was just 33-13 vs. Cleveland, but if I'm somebody else in this league, I'm saying oh-ohhhhh. They were counting on getting spotted at least 2 or 3 games this year

Sorry buddies, only one gimme game out of Brisset. The rest of the season you're as likely to end up on top as that Beautyrest Black.
