Despite a reasonably poor performance on 3rd down, they only gave up 16 points. If that's exposed, I'll sign up for that. The defense got exposed.

But they didn't hold the Bills to [negative points] to secure the win, so....People complaining about the D in the Bills game still? SMH
16 points when they couldnt get off the field and our O could not stay on the field. 16 PPG would have given us the best D in the league last year.
I do think the Patriots need a nasty, balls to the wall, regular season this year, 14-2 or so. 1 Seed, no injuries. 17-2 over and SB win. This needs to be a dominant 2004 type team so they get to be at home.Report: NFL Coaches Frightened By What Tom Brady And Patriots Might Do This Season
Defensive coaches are pi$$ed that Goodell suspended him and are expecting the worst.
Not By Field Butler Yates:
Surely some revelation is at hand;
Surely the Second Coming is at hand.
The Second Coming! Hardly are those words out
When a vast image out of Footballus Mundi
Troubles my sight: somewhere in the turf
A shape with Wolverine body and the head of a man,
A gaze blank and pitiless as the sun,
Is moving its wicked slow thighs, while all about it
Reel shadows of the indignant Ravens and Colts.
The darkness drops again; but now I know
That four weeks of sunbathing
Were vexed to nightmare by a weasly commissioner,
And what rough beast, its hour come round at last,
Slouches towards Foxboro to be born?
I don't like this narrative the media is trying to sell and some here are jumping the bandwagon. Gotta keep the feet on the ground.
The team is good but got exposed last sunday, we have a battle against Denver and Steelers for HFA, it's a long season. Fortunately Belichick don't give a **** about all that and will keep the guys focused.
I agree with the idea that Brady and Belichick are pissed and want to win, but that could be said for any year. We all witnessed the "FU" tours in 2007 and 2015 and those didn't amount to a title. In keeping with this thought, I also agree with you that this article could've been written by "our old pal 'Fitzy,' " or any number of posters on the forum. Fortunately, none of it matters.
I have the same thoughts on Belichick and wonder if he would've given more thought to riding off in the sunset prior to the latest accusations. It would seem as though the other 31 teams are screwing themselves by continuously poking the bear(s).I look at these slights as career extenders for Brady. Every time he thinks about slacking a bit in his NFL dotage, he'll remember the ********, and he'll hunker back down.

The defense was on the field too long because the offense didn't show upThey were horrid on 3rd downs - that has to change obviously. Points allowed can be a misleading stat - if the other team is dominating TOP it means your offense is on the sidelines for the most part

This doesn't explain why the patriots defense couldn't even stop the bills on Buffalo's very first drive of the game.
This doesn't explain why the patriots defense couldn't even stop the bills on Buffalo's very first drive of the game. NE got the ball first and had a 3 and out. Buffalo immediately had a 7:11 second scoring drive. That alone would have been enough to win the game. The defense was fresh at that point, it had nothing to do with the offense.

So the D is no good because they let up an early score when they should have been fresh. As mentioned, you are really reaching here for something to fit your narrative that this loss is on the D on a day when the O couldn't do one thing. ONE THING!
The defense played poorly in the first half, no question. It played poorly in the second half of the Miami game. Those have been the only low points for this defense this year. But if you've been watching this team for a while now, which I assume you have, you'll know that the defense isn't in its final form yet. Defenses under Belichick have historically started out somewhat slow, and have gotten stronger and more consistent towards the end of the season. This has actually been one of the best starts for the defense since 2000.
There's no reason to worry yet.
I never said the loss was solely on the D. All I'm saying is people shouldn't dismiss the D's performance as "they only gave up 16 points. That's not bad." The offense was even worse with their 3 and outs and failure to get first downs. However, given that the GOAT did not play and brisett was dealing with a thumb injury, it's understandable. In the absence of brady the D was supposed to step up regardless of who was playing QB. The poor offense should not be an excuse for the D.
