Now that Chad is on the PUP list does this mean after the first 6 weeks of the season he is a regular player back on the team or is there something else involved? So after the Dallas game he can get back to fighting for playing time?

The PUP he's on now isn't the same as the regular season PUP - he can be back for Week 1 just like Stallworth can. However I expect he'll go on the PUP to start the regular season then he will be out for the first 6 weeks guaranteed.

If he does end up on the regular season pup list. Yes, he's out for the first six weeks. Afterward, there is a three week period where they must include him in practices (or 53 man roster) or place him on IR. After those three weeks, there is another three week period where he must be placed on either the 53 man roster or IR.

It works something like that.

I agree. Even if he was healthy enough to start practicing and playing in Week 1, IMO he would be so far behind a already deep WR corp, it's better for him to be 100% and start practicing after Week 6.

Correct me if I'm wrong anyone but there's a 3 week window to practice after Week 6 before a decision has to be made, right?

Thanks patriot lifer. You had answered my question before I asked it.

Yeah, something like that. I forgot the specifics.

There's also the option of cuting him at that time.

A player on the regular season PUP is allowed to start practicing with the team at any time from the sixth to the ninth week of the season. From that time, the team has three weeks to determine whether or not the player will be activated or placed on the IR.

I don't think so. As I understand it, there is only one three week period, not two. It is true that the player has three weeks to start practicing, but the three-week window to make a decision starts after week six, not three weeks after he starts practicing.

In other words, the two three week periods you mention run concurrently, not one after the other for a total of six weeks. A decision must be made after week 9, whether the player started practicing after week 6, week 7, or week 8.

A player only has the full three weeks to practice if he starts right after week 6. If he isn't ready to start until week 9, he only gets a day or so.

Also, change the word MUST to MAY. The team doesn't have to include him in practices. They can let him sit all by himself, do nothing with him, and after week 9 either actviate him, IR him or cut him.

This is as I understand it.

I sincerely hope you're not serious. (Seeing as, if they felt the problem was that Jackson is "never going to get it," they could have cut him this offseason, when he wasn't on PUP.)

Sorry, but that's just wrong. The three week practice period lasts three weeks even if the player starts practicing at the very end of the three week window which starts at week 6.

This can be proved simply by looking at the Patriots last season, where they started Patrick Pass practicing week 9 and then didn't move him to the active roster until November 25, week 12. That would have been impossible under the rules you described. Unfortunately the incorrect impression of the rules continues to be common, in part due to incorrect information in Migel's FAQ.

I've pointed out in the past that some of Migel's fact's & figures have been incorrect, but for some reason they don't get fixed...

Will fix. Please note that the info in my FAQ came directly from an article written by an agent.

What other facts and figures are incorrect??

I have never received a PM from you. Pats1 and DaBruinz are always PM'ing me when they noticed something wrong.

I just dis a search on all of your posts where you mentioned my name. You had a post in which you pointed out that I had Caldwell's 2007 salary incorrect. I fixed that the very next day upon my return on my vacation. In March you pointed out that my FAQ on Practice Squad needed to be updated. I did not read that thread until today. Will update my FAQ.

If you see something wrong on my pages, your best bet is to PM me as I do not read every post in every thread.

It's simply an additional unstated option, albeit an unlikely one and hopefully unwarranted.

So it would be 9 weeks into the season before he can get any game play if he on the PUP list?

He can start the first game he comes off which would be week 7. Bruschi did that in 2005 when he came back from his stroke. The Pats would not have to activate or IR Jackson for three weeks after he came off the PUP though. So he could be activated any time from just after week six until the end of the 9th week of the season. He can practice while not being active on the 53 man roster during this period, but much be on the active 53 man roster to actually play.

I think he needs to be activated by the first injury report of the week to actually play that week, but I could be wrong there.

FAQ updated.

Found a 2006 NFL.Com article that backs up Alamo's post.
