Joe Montana to Steve Young II?

If you think his future hasn't been discussed your just ignorant. The long term future of this team doesn't include TB much longer and that's a fact. Face reality and stop clinging to the past. I love TB but the writing is on the wall just like it is for ALL players. His time is coming soon. The team will face some difficult questions going into 2018.
Yes, they discussed Brady's future and then decided to sign him to an extension.

I think this team is SB caliber. If they win with Brady and he looks like he did last year, i think the odds are good he would fetch 2 firsts. He would turn a lot of teams into SB contenders over night if only for 2-4 years.

Yeah let's trade him to Denver. I didn't want the Pats to contend for any SBs for the next 4 years anyway.

from GM's perspective jimmy is a promising QB who can play, but sample size is just too small. they will also factor in that BB is genius and look into situation like matt flynn. matt flynn of all people threw 6TDs against lions and got a good contract.

i'm hoping teams will get scared to throw top $ at jimmy. feel bad for the kid, but this short lived audition is a blessing in disguise for us. he really should just stay as a pat as long as he doesn't get top $ from other teams. and he should because aging QB won't play forever and he will have a seamless transition in a top organization. we should pay him good enough $, just don't break a bank.

i don't know what the pats will do but teams will be knocking on the door with high draft picks next season, he beat the NFC super bowl fav in there house without gronk a injury filled OL and a inconsistent run game and would have had for TD's and close to 400 yards passing if he did not get hurt today,

I hope his injury is not that bad and its a great time to be a pats fan....GO PATS

I just hope the GMs of the Browns, 49ers, Bears, Cowboys, and any other team that might be in the market for a trade of Garoppolo are as high on him as some on this board, Belichick might be able to get two firsts and two seconds for him.

Why would it be discussed? It doesn't need to be discussed yet, and there's nothing to be gained by prematurely discussing it. Let's for the sake of argument say that Belichick does intend to trade Brady if Garoppolo looks good. Even then, why have that conversation before Garoppolo's proven to be good?
Do you not save for a rainy day? BB is building his team's for years down the line not just for today. All aging players are discussed with contingency plans. That's how you manage a team... I'm not saying they discussed trading Brady in 2016, I'm saying theyve likely discussed the near end and how to go forward without him. Whether that included Jimmy or not, it's certainly been discussed and the team will have to make a decision after next year. If they believe Jimmy is their guy, he stays and Brady goes. Simple as that.

Well maybe BB is just that fool. I mean if Jimmy was the no doubt future, why draft Jacoby in the third round this year.
I think BB did that to hedge his bets because he is a brilliant coach. IF Jacoby is good enough, that allows that Pats to continue with Brady and ship out Jimmy. Or maybe BB ships out Brady.
I don't know what the Pats will do, but I am sure BB has thought of everything which includes getting rid of Jimmy and having Brady play until Jacoby is ready.

Why draft Kevin O'Connell in the third when Brady was in his prime, why Mallett in the third when Brady was still going strong? Thats what the Patriots do. It is partially about hedging bets, I agree. I jist think they know what they have in Jmmy and his career is projectable. Jacoby, he is raw. I think it would be a foolish risk to trade away a young QB that looks like Garoppalo in exchange for a 40 year old and a project.

Im a Jimmy believer but there are two things he has yet to prove for me to be 100% behind him. #1 is durability, which he is failing at the moment and #2 is the ability to play in bad weather. Until he proves those two things, Jacoby could one day snatch the role of Steve Young away from him in a season or 2 for all we know.

I'm just happy we seem to have options for the inevitable day when Brady is replaced. From what we have seen, there is no reason to fear the future.

#3, the ability to engineer comeback wins. He needs to prove he can win when things are not perfect, so far everything has been perfect for him.

Do you really want to get into this? You have no idea what the hell you're talking about, in terms of what BB thinks. Has he thought about the future of the position? Obviously, as he made clear when he explained the JAG pick in the first place. But, when you make the leap from that to your position, you're just guessing, nothing more.

This is from March of this year:

"That’s probably a comment for another time," Belichick replied when asked if he appreciated the relationship between Brady and the Patriots that could last 20 seasons, "but I’ve said many times there is no quarterback I’d rather have than Tom Brady. He’s my quarterback. So I’ll stand by that."

Belichick on Brady: No QB I'd rather have

Does it mean that Brady will be the team's QB into his 80's? Of course not, but it does mean that BB is still looking at him as the man he wants running the show.

4 good quarters, 2 exceptional quarters. I've seen enough, **** that Brady guy. The future has arrived.
It was really actually 1 exceptional quarter. He was 12/15 for 177 yards and 2 touchdowns in Q1, and went 6/12 for 57 yards and a touchdown in Q2.

Yes, they discussed Brady's future and then decided to sign him to an extension.
And if you look at that extension his cap hit goes from 14 mill in 2017 to 22 mill in 2018. Decisions will be made for that 2018 season imo.

He still has yet to see a variety of defenses and have defensive coordinators make adjustments to him and then further adjustments to him. His prospects look good, but we are still a long way from finding out if he can become even a top ten QB. And as you pointed out, staying healthy is a skill and talent which is crucial for the position.

Yep, I don't have a clue but you expect the team to have a 22 million cap hit for a 42 year old QB...

2018 is a pivotal year in terms of how the team chooses to go with Brady and im banking they choose to go elsewhere.

Are you in your TB12 jammies right now? He is 40 next year. Easy decision to take Grop + Denvers next two 1sts for an old man, no matter how good he still is. Im confident that BB would have a defensive plan to make Brady uncomfortable.

ok, so what type of money does a good backup QB makes? how much can we give to jimmy? any salary cap specialist here?

I never said anything of the kind. When you have to fall back upon such an obvious straw man, you know your argument is a steaming pile.

Christ almighty, people. He looked good when coaches had zero tape on him. Brady is the GOAT with coaches having enough miles of tape on him that it could stretch from Key West to Newfoundland. Calm your tits. Brady isn't going anywhere.

Obviously pointless to discuss with anyone that has "Brady" in their screenname, but if his 4 quarters in Arizonas home opener against one of the best defenses in the in the NFL were not "exceptional" i dont know what to tell you.

Your right you didn't say that, I'm just trying to understand how you believe the team will back Brady through 2019 or that his future end hasn't been discussed or planned for.

He'll be out of the league sooner than later and that's the point. I'm not saying Jimmy is the future but if he shows he can be, which he's looked damn good so far, I'd invest in him quicker than I would 41 year old brady.
