I have no idea what I would have done. But it's not as cut and dried as the media is making it (that JG needs the reps).

Two significant reasons for the way they're doing it :

1) JG is our QB for four weeks. Just like Brady usually doesn't play in the last game, we're one injury to JG from a rookie being our starter. JG may need reps but he also needs to be babied.

2) When Brady shows up on Monday of Week 5 he has a few days to be ready for a road game 6 days from when he shows up. He's getting a month off - and he's TB12 - but he does need some time before his upcoming month off.

Again, I'm not saying this is the right move - not sure there is one - but there are good reasons for it.

You didn't miss anything. Our starting QB in Week 1 usually doesn't play in the last preseason game.

Tough call, IMO, but it make sense. Preserve JG for the first game. Get JB ready in case JG gets hurt by giving him a lot of reps in this game, almost all of them. Throw a few (1-2 series) of reps to TB12. Only one QB will be out there with starting OL, receivers and backs, so very limited reps available to either JG or TB12.

From a risk mitigation standpoint with the near-term in mind, its the safest move. I get it.

Jimmy G gets hurt in this game they can easily go 0-4

If Jimmy gets hurt early in the season then Brisket has a ton of reps to learn from if the bullets start flying.

In addition BB must feel that he needs to find ways for Brady to have as little rust as possible. Maybe playing tonight helps him over the next few weeks? Keep in mind BB knows Tom better than anyone. If he thinks he needs the reps, hes giving them to him.

I don't think BB would do something to placate Tom if he didn't think it was in the best interests of the team.

I bet the sports radio yahoos are screaming JIMMY NEEDS TO PLAY!!!! BRADY IS BEING SELFISH!!

Whatever. I'm trusting Bill's judgement on this one.

Jimmy needs all he live snaps he can get. I am not against Brady playing, but Jimmy needs to play too, IMO.

We are over thinking it. Truth : there is no perfect solution to this situation. Any QB can get hurt, most of them could use extra practice, there is no way of knowing exactly how much the month off will hamper TB...

It's a guessing game. BB has as good a chance of guessing correctly as anyone.

We have to play someone, all teams play their backups in game 4. Needless to say, the odds of JG getting hurt affecting us on the field are far greater than that of Brissett so JG is the one who needs to be protected.
