2016 Training Camp: Day 6 (Wed Aug 3 2016)

To quote my later post explaining:

"If they expand the rosters more, players will get paid less and there will be even more potential matchups that teams and players would have to be prepared for every week. Mismatches would become less common, and an already complex game would become even more complicated. No matter how many guys you have on the roster, there will still only be 11 on the field at one time.

BB was asked the same question, and he seems to feel that 53 is too many.

Also remember that many in the NFL look at the CFL as a source of talent development. "

I just said the regular roster.. I said nothing about the game roster.. And Belichick has been in favor of doing away with benching healthy players.

Dobson is doing what he has to if he wants to make the roster. If he keeps this up and shows up in preseason games and stays healthy he will make the team and should. That is easier said than done.

If Dobson doesn't put it together on the field this season, I want Tommy Lee Jones and Will Smith to erase his existence from my memory. It'd just be too painful at that point.

Jones has tones of talent. shocked he wasn't drafted. Lacks height but has heart and a lot of skill. If he was 2 inches taller he would have been a first or second round pick. I had him as a high 4th IIRC.
I think you may have answered your own question, Digital.

Yeah but how did he not get drafted in the 4th or 5th or 6th or 7th?

IDK how you leave that talent on the board. I mean honey badger just got paid 12M a year and is the same size as this kid. He went in the 3rd? Jones won't be as good but he is going to be a top nickle corner before long IMO if he catches up to the NFL game fully.

Media makes a big deal about "The Patriot Way". It's something you adapt to as a player, not something mandated to you when you sign on the dotted line.

If the Pats had drafted a WR in the 2nd round this year performing like Dobson is we'd be thrilled and talking about how much he was going to improve the offense.

On a separate note, it seems like the Pats are having a pretty enjoyable camp for a team without a 1st round pick.

Right now, this draft is looking like it will produce at least 2 starters right now, and several more who are promising and have a good shot at eventually playing a lot.

This is a good podcast and worth listening to. But I can't help but think that ALL the work that Howe keeps saying he did to come up with his conclusions, (which I agree with, btw) could have been mitigated if he simply had clicked on Miguel's cap page and followed him on social media.

So in other words, "Nice work Jeff, but those of us at Patsfans.com came to the same conclusions a few months ago because we HAVE followed Miguel. And you can save a lot time if you do the same."

It's not yet the start of exhibition season, but the wild overrating of Logan Ryan has begun. Yes, football is back.

Yeah, I hear you, man. I doubt he gets through waivers if he continues at this pace, as I don't really see him surpassing many of the younger developmental guys who have already been in the system a year. Maybe Roberts? He flashed last TC and preseason, but I have not really heard much about him so far this TC.

That's why @Miguel is freakin' awesome and we are lucky he is a Pats fan.

Roberts is having a solid camp. I am happy with how he is doing. A few other guys are too but in reality it is Roberts vs Jones for spot 5. I still think they should keep 6 as Ryan will be gone next year and Roberts has some skill and is 6 feet. Can't teach size.

The Pats don't have that tall outside prospect if they cut Roberts.

I'm really trying hard not to make it seem like I'm seeking out your posts and disagreeing with everything you're saying, but you're making claims that I have no idea a) how you're coming up with them and b) how you would support them. What has Coleman showed you to suggest he'd be an adequate #2 in this league already? I saw a player who played well at times and got burned quite a few more times. He is not ready at all to be this team's #2 and forcing him into that role would give QB's an opportunity to rip the defense to shreds if the pass rush is somehow not up to par. This team's chances of making a SB with Ryan as the #2 are vastly better than with Coleman as the #2.
I am not native english speaker so i guess i dont know how to write properly so let me explain what i meant.
Some poster posted about trading Ryan and i was reffering as potential, like maybe this will happen, maybe to you looks this stupid but with BB i never know what it is on his mind so nothing surprise me.

Cyrus Jones as Logan Ryan clone. Why
Check their combine numbers and they are identical in almost every stat.
And another bif factor. He is film junkie, like all the Rutgers gang. IIRC Harmon and Ryan were big films junkies back in Rutgers and BB loved that. Ryan studies receivers well. He blanked Deandre Hopkins and knew all his routes in last year game. So Cyrus Jones is his clone. But will that clone grow like Logan Ryan. I dont know. Ryan had 2years to learn, he sucked in SB and if he would be in probably no sB win for pats, in begining of last season he was 4thCb and after injuries of Brown and some other dude he became CB2 and i was like OMG. Cyrus probably wont have such learning luxury if Ryan gone in FA.

So we are still talking about potential trade, i am not saying this will happen, and we got Justin coleman as CB2, who else do we got. I dont think that Cyrus, Jonathan, or Darryl are CB2 this year.

I want to be clear that I was not suggesting or am not an advocate of cutting Roberts. I was more just posing a question.
