The 53 man roster is 7 players more than the 46 player limit on game day. How big do you want it to get? I think adding a couple of designated IR return slots and expanding the practice squad would be better for the game than simply expanding the roster.

Honestly? I think that making the rosters 65 men would be best. Forget the practice squad. I do like having more than 1 IR-DtR as well.

The practice squad was just expanded last year.

The practice squad was expanded with the new CBA. What was changed is the number of players you could have on it with 3+ years.

Agreed, it would also lead to a healthier roster as slightly injured players can sit before they become more seriously injured.

My thoughts exactly.. Ryan is worth more this year than what we would receive in return. I'd rather have Ryan as a solid, reliable #2 cb this year while the younger guys continue to develop..
Ryan is also going to get PAID in free agency, so there is a very realistic chance at us getting a 4th round comp pick for him in 2018 which are now tradeable, making comp picks a lot more valuable

So unless someone was willing to blow the doors off with an offer of like a 2nd round pick, I'd rather have his talent this year to help us try for a super bowl.

This team is STACKED, it's one of the best windows we've had for a title in awhile IMO... so I'd be hesitant to start trading away good starters that we may really need down the stretch, especially since we've been snake bitten by injuries these last couple years

Good point. I reverse course.

That's honestly a big change and one that will benefit us. F U Goodell.

And that's the thing few take into consideration when they're just like, "Yeah, and we can move player X to the number 2 spot and blah blah." What happens if Coleman goes down? What happens if Jones goes down on a punt/kick return? What happens if Malcolm Butler goes down? The way I see it, we were SUPREMELY LUCKY in 2014 that Collins and High stayed healthy because there was not much good LB depth behind them and we were equally SUPREMELY lucky in 2015 when Butler and Ryan stayed healthy for the same reason. You can't bank on good health in the NFL. As our leader has stated, it's a 100 percent injury rate in this league.

Can I just be a sap and say I love this board? If rooting for the Pats wasn't good enough, I get to discuss them with the community here. Even when we don't always agree, it's still fun and enlightening. This is a great place to be. I know it's a bit OT, but whatever. Sue me.

Rich Hill of Pats Pulpit says he wouldn't be surprised if Ryan got a $6MM APY from someone based on contracts this past offseason. That,s probably good for a 5th round compensatory pick in 2018, which is the equivalent of a 6th rounder in the 2017 draft. So does a year of Ryan + a 2017 6th outweigh the trade offer. That's the question.

To quote my later post explaining:

"If they expand the rosters more, players will get paid less and there will be even more potential matchups that teams and players would have to be prepared for every week. Mismatches would become less common, and an already complex game would become even more complicated. No matter how many guys you have on the roster, there will still only be 11 on the field at one time.

BB was asked the same question, and he seems to feel that 53 is too many.

Also remember that many in the NFL look at the CFL as a source of talent development. "

Jeff Howe now has a daily podcast, as if we needed more Pats porn. I've been at attention since last week.

Bennett has to be the funniest player to ever walk through the locker room. His soundbites this season, especially if he does live up to the hype, are going to be priceless. I just hope he doesn't get himself benched for the first series of any games this season.

"Brandon, we need to know EVERYTHING you know about the Patriots. Everything!"

"Man, all I know is that Belichick is an ******* man."

At least if he becomes a LOLphin, he won't have to shovel any snow.

This is his last opportunity, IMO. If it doesn't work out in MIA, I don't think any other team will take a chance on him. He was already slow enough to begin with, and now he is coming off a year long absence from the league. He's lucky he's so damn instinctive, and that's a trait in high demand for his position; otherwise, he would have been out of the league for good already. He's an f-ing dimwit. Somehow he was my favorite Gator when he played here.

(Ducks incoming explosion of comments)

Not from me. I hope he continues to do well, makes the team and helps them win. I wish that for all the players in camp.

If he gets caught up in a numbers game hopefully they can trade him for a 7th or 6th round pick.

With all that said in 3 years of following his career very closely I have little confidence that anything I have just said will happen.
