I think this is more of an NFLPA issue than it is an NFL front office issue. But...you never know with Captain Integrity and his own brand of industrial justice. Wait a min, it's the Ravens so we do know what will happen. Tape will get lost in transition.

Normally this would be pretty easy. They were either practicing in pads or they weren't. But in a world where it didn't matter whether a ball was actually deflated or not for deciding the punishment...

This just in..The league investigation will consist of watching media reactions to the story this week and assigning a commensurate punishment next week.

That's not the way these usually work...The NFL will do little time and time again then suddenly hit a team with a huge, out of nowhere, over the top punishment.

Not saying that will happen here, but it wouldn't be shocking if it did.

I couldn't find the details after a quick search, but the Ravens were penalized within the last 5 or 6 years for conducting "illegal" practices, like too many OTA or preseason sessions.

I think we all know we won't hear anything about that incident, a pattern of behavior, or repeat offender status and if the league even decides to punish Baltimore.

Hard to imagine ever knowing for sure, if we haven't gotten to the bottom of it yet. What's worse is that there are conflicting reports. Ultimately, it doesn't really matter, but we're all curious just the same.

All they can do is take away a day or two of their OTAs or future padded practices. That's the precedent, and we've seen it before from other teams.

Ironically, it was a non-contact drill on special teams, so lord only knows why they had pads on to begin with.

Found the prior incident: In 2010, the Ravens had to cancel their final week of OTAs because they had broken the rules around how OTA practices are conducted.

I'll keep my eyes peeled for commentary about how the Ravens are habitual line steppers, will do anything to win, operate in the gray areas of the rules, continually push the envelope of gamesmanship and think the rules don't apply to them.
