Basically, a powerful attack on the NFL and/or the game of football, for the usual reasons of health.

Contains a lot of unusual detail, because Kevin Turner was a friend of his.

I don't see any of Borges' usual failings in this column. Yes, he'll soon go back to covering football in the usual way, and that will be somewhat hypocritical. But this column on its own is worth reading, no matter what you think of Borges and/or the Herald.

There has never been any question, at least in my mind, about Borges's writing ability. He's prolific. What he has written has most usually, but not always, been the problem for me, not how he has written.

Very well done. A beautiful tribute to Kevin Turner and an articulate description of CTE and the devastation that comes with it. I hope this finds its way to Roger Goodell.

I jump on Borges frequently in this forum when he reverts to form and levels unnecessary criticism from a place of arrogance, especially against the fans of the Patriots and other local sports teams. He's got the capacity to do very good work, and this is an example of that.

He wrote an award-winning story about the fight between Ray BOOM BOOM Mancini and Duk KOO KIM which resulted in KIM's death. He should know all about the brutality of boxing.
