Garrapolo-Trade or Keep?

I'd rather they traded Chandler Jones for a high second this year and a fourth next year and then extend Jabaal Sheard.

If you put Jimmy G in front of BOB he would take a hard look at it.

Well the belief was that he was going to draft Jimmy G last time and we took him from under BOB's nose. Whether that's true or not is another matter. It might depend upon what BOB thinks of Christian Hackenburg.

For now, his main importance comes with running the scout team, and I don't know how he compares to previous backups in that regard. If his road in the NFL is going to end with a starting position, the timeline from when he was drafted to when Brady retires is a very fuzzy one. I always thought it was weird timing (not a weird pick) when he was drafted.

I think his contract situation will be a year to year thing. Brady says he can play for 6-8 years. QBs can decline rapidly over the period of 1-2 years. Sorry, Jimmy G, your future isn't the pats' top priority.

Why trade a 2nd round QB who has two years already in the system, when the end result is getting another backup who's spent no time in the system and likely is less talented?

If anything, Chandler Jones seems like the most probable trade candidate.
You don't unless you have Benjamin Button as your QB.

You won't get a 2nd round pick for him, no way.
He was a 2nd round pick, and has sat around not playing football for 2 years.
Teams will choose to use their second round pick on a QB who hasn't been inactive for 2 years, and will actually learn their system from the start.
I'm guessing teams desperate for a backup may give up a 4th or 5th for Garrapolo, which the Patriots would be silly to take.
This is why QBs who have never played since being drafted don't get traded.
Nicely said.

Probably the biggest trade involving a quarterback in the last 5-7 years was Alex Smith going to the Chiefs. Smith netted two second round picks; this was a guy who was 19-5-1 over his previous 21 games, with 30 TD, 10 INT, and a 95.1 passer rating. That's about as good as a QB as you're going to find available in a trade. All things considered, that return is pretty underwhelming (for a guy far more accomplished than Garoppolo).

I don't think he'd fetch more than a mid-round pick...

Jimmy plays behind crappy lines w/out edelman or gronk and still looks pretty good. Easy call to keep our steve young.

I think we have enough proof this past season from all the starters injured throughout the league, that a team without a decent backup is dead. It is better to have a backup that 'may' be able to lead the team, as opposed to a backup you pray never has to lead the team!

And let's not forget that there is a non-zero chance that the appeals court could decide in favor of the NFL, forcing Garoppolo to play. [The "consolation prize," if there could be said to be one in such a case, would be that (A) Brady's appeal bought Garoppolo an extra year of prep, and (B) even if the Pats stink, they have their first-rounder in 2017.]

If you put Jimmy G in front of BOB he would take a hard look at it.
Why? What does BOB have to do with Garrapolo?
Why wouldn't he just use his pick to draft his own guy, and not try to resurrect a guy who hasn't played football in 2 years?
This idea that the guy used to coach here so he must love everyone on our roster is crazy.

No way, Pats have a SB roster and if something were to happen to Brady you have someone in the system.

Jimmy G has been in this system two years and has received excellent coaching.

BOB runs the same system.

Jimmy G has talent.

Rumors were that he wanted to draft Jimmy.

Jimmy likes Elaine

I did not answer because it all depends on the specifics of the answer.

Garapolo to Cleveland for their net 3 twos? Sure. Garapolo for a left guard I never heard of ... let me google the guy I never heard of (sorry, I do not follow guards closely) Off hand, no, but I'd trust people who know the situation better than me.

I believe that was a misunderstanding. Jimmy doesn't like misunderstandings. Jimmy and misunderstandings don't get along.

I think Brady is setting a new bar when it comes to the level of play you can get from older quarterbacks. He takes care of himself like no other QB has and there is absolutely no evidence of deterioration in his play, and it could be argued that he is getting better. I don't think they should count on him to carry them the way he has and I believe that a great defense and a strong run game would put them over the top for another Lombardi and possibly two, and they should should be shooting to have both for next season.
Just curious...how do you know that no other QB has taken care of himself?

I think 12/32 teams last year used backup QBs sometime this season.

Brady will be 39 years old. He's gotten pummeled recently.

I think if something happened to Brady, our SB chances wouldn't crash and burn with Jimmy G + this defense in the AFC.

With the inconsistent OL play we have seen for 2 seasons, we should count our blessings Brady has not missed games. Since we THINK that JAG is s decent player, keep him. He might be the guy who wins a key HFA game while a banged up Brady either misses a game of gets needed healing rest.

I do not favor but am more open to trading Jones because we believe we have depth at DE while we have none at QB.

I'm all in for making stronger than usual THIS SEASON moves in 2016 and possibly next because there is no Brady equivalent coming our way. Guessing 2 more elite years for Tommy Boy.

Agree. Looked much improved from his rookie year. But, he has to play in reg. season to
establish value.

Jimmy played pretty good though....Jimmy's got some new moves....Jimmys down!!
