Brady's SICK Games of Catch

One of the reasons why he's the GOAT right there - insane preparation.

Great piece!

Save this link to send to anyone who tries to detract from Brady's accomplishments because, "He just throws a few yards down the field, then the receiver gets all the yards after the catch." Brady's preparation and obsession with accuracy allows those catches to happen on the move, or puts them in position to take advantage of blocking. Great stories.

Brady is probably the favorite player of almost every Patriot fan, and someone who's work ethic has to be admired by everyone. I thank the higher sources every day that he's quarterbacing my favorite football team.

But man, he must be a pain in the ass to hang out with. I'm sure that his level of perfectionism has got to be tough on his friends.

And I say that with peace and love

Great story. It also makes you think that when Brady throws a pass and it is off target, who is to blame, the QB or the receiver?

To those detractors, I always say, "Why doesn't anyone else do it?" If it's so simple, why isn't it replicated across the league?

I equate it to golf. Drive for show, putt for dough. You can go 450 yards in 3 big shots, then take 3 more shots to go those last 5 yards because of a lack of precision.

But that does Brady a disservice. He does have a big arm, big hands, and throws a perfect spiral which cuts through all conditions. His lack of downfield targets has more to do with the type of receivers he's given. He maximizes what they do best and vice versa. His one season with Moss showed what he could do downfield with the proper target.

Johnny Football gets pissed when his Jager-bombs are an inch out of reach and his disguise mustache droops.
PayMeATon Manning gets pissed when the FedEx guy is late.

I love how you have to look to out of town/unusual sources for good Pats' articles. I mean, sports is supposed to be fun, and you have all these guys with all this time on their hands who never produce anything interesting. This is good.

Also consider, built for Foxboro home field playoff advantage. Weather conditions. Can throw downfield if needed but better percentage with short pinpoint passes in bad conditions.

Usually it's the receiver running the wrong route in situations like that. Think back to Week 16 and the INT that was intended for Gronk.

Did Brady misunderstand the idea that football is a game of "inches"?

No, I think he understands it better than any QB who ever played the game. He's beyond incredible and should be celebrated for his characteristics, not torn down by lesser men who fail to perceive his greatness and know they will never live up to even 1 day in his life.

WSJ Article: Playing catch with Tom Brady

OMG I need a cigarette:

Look Out! Tom Brady Wants to Play Catch

Stallworth, who played on the 2007 Patriots team that went 16-0 during the regular season, said he’s never seen anyone as prepared as Brady. During one of Stallworth’s first offseason workouts with the team, Brady threw a perfect pass, one that the receiver simply had to cradle to catch. Stallworth dropped it. Disappointed, he ran back towards Brady, who profusely apologized. “He was pissed off at himself, he figured out he was an inch or two off” said Stallworth. “That’s when I realized: ‘Wow, this dude is crazy.’”

This is sadly true.

With the exception of Curran, Howe and maybe a couple of others, there are better, more well written, more informative pieces about the team written by journalists outside of this region than inside it.

I swear 1/2 the articles written by Boston-based journalists are either a hatchet-job or an op-ed piece that put the team in an unsubstantiated negative light.

After one pass hit Gonzalez squarely in the chest, Brady chided himself for not getting the ball a little further in front of his target. Gonzalez was confused—the pass was perfect. But Brady explained that if the ball had been a foot and a half in front of the receiver’s body, it would mean an extra three yards gained after the catch. (To be clear, this was in the dead of summer, with no defenders around and months before any meaningful games.)

“I joked ‘Tom, if you’d seen some of the quarterbacks I played with, you’d know I’m just glad you got it to me,’” Gonzalez said. “I was blown away.”

Sums up both the Brady era Patriots and the Gonzalez era Chiefs in one simple story

Globe reporters do have marching orders when the Patriots are featured.
